Many artists have covered this song but who wrote the song? It seems to be making a come back in many forms. Does anyone know anything about this old tune.?

...yes, it is tho they didn't write it....it was written in the '60...writer from tin pan alley I believe....

Red Red Wine was orginaly written by Neil Diamond. it was orginally released on April of 1968. it hit number 68 on the Billboard charts and also had a backing choir to it!

in 1969 Tony Tribe recorded a version of it, he was a Jamacain rock-steady singer..so thats where it first got its reggae sound.

UB40 had only heard Tony Tribes version..so that explains why it has that reggae sound in their version.

a number of ppl have covered the song to varying degrees of success in the charts. but UB40's version is the only one to actually hit the #1 spot on the charts...in 4 different countries no less!
