I bought a new gun and am curious if it's a decent good gun?

So i decided to buy myself a 9mm pistol for home protection because lets just say we had a close encounter a year or so ago and had nothing to defend ourselves but a baseball bat. They never came in the house but they were trying. Needless to say i finally bought a gun and it was pretty cheap. It's a "Highpoint" brand and made in the USA and only $125.00 brand new. Most 9mm like a smith & wesson brand new are around $600.00 to $800.00 dollars and are made in like sweden or croatia. I'm going shooting this coming weekend at a firing range and am hoping it's not just some piece of crap that doesn't shoot straight. Does anyone know anything about firearms that could help me out?
