Paint My Kitchen!

One thing I have realized is that the more people you ask for their opinions the more choices you have and with that comes this discussion. My family has decided not to move and to remodel our current home instead of purchasing a new one, at least for the time being. My husband is giving me a new kitchen for Christmas, just what I have always wanted for the past 4 years. The first thing to go is the ugly blue carpet! I have picked out my tile for the floor and my mind will not be changed on it. Here is a link to it. It is much brighter than this picture shows. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=244053-61-CAR021313&lpage=none My cabinets are very light. I want to say Canadian Maple, but my counter tops and back splash are this god awful "Smurf in a blender" blue. The walls are currently paneled in an off white. I know you are all appalled as I am. My stove, coffee pot, and dishwasher are black. My refrigerator, toaster, microwave, and can opener are white. Now my dilemma. As hideous as my counter is I want to paint the walls to compliment it and make my kitchen bright and cheery. I am thinking of a chartreuse green for the walls. If you are familiar with the hexadecimal color code it would be 7FFF00 or maybe even a lime green 00FF00. I then want to paint the trim bright yellow, FFFF00. I think this would look amazing. My husband fears having seizures every time he sits down to have dinner. His suggestion is to relaminate the counter tops and replace the back splash. I think that is too much work. I am also getting a new stove. Since my appliance vary between black and white, which color should the stove be? So help me out. Pick my paint and the color of my stove. Or tell me you like my idea :) Have you ever had problems picking paint for a room? How did you decide?

Your color scheme does sound interesting, to say the least. I do like the bright yellow; I always felt yellow was the best color for a kitchen. Don't ask me why, maybe because it's so sunny and cheerful. I think yellow would look great with the black appliances, too. When we remodel, I tend to want to take the easy option, while hubby insists on doing it the hard way. To be honest, when he's done I am glad he made the choice because it does look so nice. If you can afford it, indulge your hubby. After all, you can't have him choking on his oatmeal!

I think if it was me and I wanted bright and cheery I'd go with pastel colors maybe in yellows, greens and soft blues. As for the stove, I'd say make it white to match the fridge or match it to whatever appliances are around it. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I should probably keep my mouth shut ...will I ? Sorry cyn, that sounds bloody awful. Blue and lime and yellow and those mushroom coloured floor tiles and mix and match black and whte appliances???? I'm inclined to go along with your hubby. With the off white walls changed to a softer version of the floor tile colour, I'd do a fine textured deep charcoal counter top and back splash. It will be sharp and soft at the same time and have a clean crisp look to it. Both the black and the white appliances will go better with the neutral colours. It's all a lot of fun but can be stressful too. Good luck with it.

I think your color combination sounds cool. Since your appliances are black and white and the new colors are bright and modern... I would do a black and chrome stove. Brushed chrome looks good with just about everything. I just finished painting 2 walls in my living room red. I was about to paint the kitchen when my husband called me and told me that we have orders to Japan in May. Not going to waste my time now!
