| latin to english translation! | | | | Found a pocket watch at an estate sale and in has latin writing on both side of the watch. Front says " AB ORZU SOLIS USQUE AD OCCASOM." The back says "NESCITIS DIEM NEQUE HORAM." If anyone could help and translate these sayings I would be most appreciative. | | I believe the second bit says "for you know day nor hour" The first bit is giving me a little more trouble though, can it be that it's misspelled ? I believe its more common as "A solis ortu usque ad accasum" I find no explanations of it though, perhaps someone else can decypher that bit hehe. Hope it was of any help. Hope I didn't make a mistake either :p its been over 10 years since I had latin, and I only did 2 years | | | | | | | | Caliebell (2)

| | Thanks for your help and yes I did spell the last word incorrectly... it goes as follows: AB ORZU SOLIS USQUE AD OCCASUM. Thanks again, Caliebell | | | | | Caliebell (2)

| | Hi again, so I was looking at the watch and I was thinking maybe that is a fancy written T. The saying on front of the watch is all capitol letters, the one on the back is in lower case. It is almost as you have written it with the exception of the first word. "AB ORTU SOLIS USQUE AD OCCASUM". with appreciation, Caliebell | | | | | | | 1000s Latin Singles 1000s Women Profiles from Brazil, Cuba, Argentina. Sign up! AmoLatina.com | add comment | | | |

| | caliebell, both of those two phrases can be taken from the latin vulgate. "ab ortu solis usque ad ocassum" means from the rising of the sun to its setting" (from psalm 113:3 and psalm 49) "nescitis diem neque horam" means neither the day nor the hour( from matthew 25:13 and mark 13:32)it is interesting to know that it pertains to the 2nd coming of christ prophecy that no one knows christ coming, nor christ or his angels but only god the father. that is a nice piece of memento.pls.email me a photo. i also have one with the nescitis diem neque horam cover only. its about 2 inches diameter. let's compare notes | | | | | | | | | | SE Texas Civil Process Certified Process Server and Notary Public - Serving Metro Houston www.setxcp.com | add comment | | | |
