Its easier then you may think! Gesso layered over this mountain made of Styrofoam gives the authentic touch. Gather cereal boxes, tissue boxes, pasta boxes, cylinder oatmeal containers and pint-sized ice cream containers. Cut holes to act as windows and doors. Create the likes of Main Street houses, Victorian mansions, barns, farm silos or, if your imagination is geared that way, medieval towers. Glue them in the desired pattern. Another option is to take wooden craft sticks and create log cabins. Scrapbooking aisles at any craft store carry sheets of paper that have brick, gravel and even cobbled-stone patterns. Measure and cut these to fit the side of houses or the layout of walkways. Step7 Mother Nature provides the foliage for any Christmas village. Venture outside and collect sticks, twigs and hardy evergreens. Using a drop of glue, root them in the Styrofoam, creating forests and tree gardens wherever desired. Step8Add frozen ponds. Break old CDs and fashion them in a mosaic-like pattern. Another option is to pop out mirrors from old compact cases and glue them to the surface. Step9 Populate the village. Local drug stores, dollar stores and even toy stores have small figurines at half the cost as those sold at the hobby store. http://www.ehow.com/how_4550094_build-miniature-christmas-village.html

That really sounds like fun. I started painting a ceramic set of houses, but some gotten broken, and I did not want to spend as much money as it was going to cost. There was a really neat fabric that looked like brick, I bought for my sister in law to put under her purchased village. This one would do well with the grandkids. Thanks
