Why are some of our body parts darker than other parts?

I have always been curious why there are some parts of our body which becomes darker even if they are not exposed under the sun. For example, our underarms, the nape and the skin below there. Except for the underarm which I am already aware of, are there other treatments which can make us whiter on our parts under there? I prefer natural methods. If you have some suggestions, I will gladly appreciate it.

Well i read an info about this.. Some skin folds like elbows, underarms, knees, inner thighs tend to become darker because of constant rubbing against surrounding skin, clothing we wear, creams we apply,or surfaces it gets in contact with. Other parts such as nape, the arms, and the face seemed darker than the rest of our body because of sun exposure. Happy mylotting.

You answered exactly the same as my husband. That's what he thought also. But what about the napes? They are not being constantly rubbed right but I noticed that some overweight people have dark napes. It just doesn't look good especially when these parts are exposed. It just feels like the person is not hygienic on some ways.

For the dark napes of fatter people, it still has something to do with friction. As you can see, the dark part is right on the creases or folds.

I think it is because of too much sunlight or the lack of it. Also too much rubbing with rough surfaces- which is why the elbow is dark .And some say that deodorants make the underarms darker.

I was a very fat kid till the age of 16,now I am 19 years old, back in those days my neck was completely black, but its completeley alright after I lost weight, but still my nape is little dark,my bum, kneecaps are very dark and I think its because of melenin or maybe insulin. When I went to a dermatologist to show my neck,he laughed and sent me back,he said that reduce weight and said go and show to a diabetes specialist and the other doctor also said the same, that you have to reduce your weight and your insulin is very high.I think its because of 'Insulin'.Please get it checked. It looks nasty but folks its life, its a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll.

friction makes some body parts darker like armpits. the skin rubs against each other and darkens

Since we wear clothes, some of the parts of our bodies are exposed to the sun in different degrees. That is the only answer.. r it also has something to do with the stuff you put n your body.

my knees always tan before the rest of my legs i dont understand why at all. I think its because you knees stretch your skin when you sit down so the color changes i dont know.
