Hi jmendoboni. My best friend's daughter is bipolar (type 2). She has some medication that she is taking now and she is doing very well. She has three medications but I don't remembe the name except for one which is Lithium. In the beginning my friend didn't know what was wrong with her. Since she was little she wouldn't sleep at night and was very fussy. Then later she wouldn't go to school, she was complaining of stomach aches. But the doctors said nothing was wrong with her. It took mny years before she saw a doctor who told her to take her to a psychologist. They diagnosed her right away with a bipoar disorder one and admited her the same day in the hospital.
I think the hard part is to be diagnosed and then not stop taking the medication. That's all there is to it and everything will be normal. Everyone of us has something in life. Take care!

I suffer from bi-polar disorder. At first, I was treated for depression. Unfortunately, anti-depressants can have an effect on the manic cycle. I ended up being hospitalized for a severe manic episode and was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. I am on Depakote, and have had no problems. It has helped me immensely. We do need to educate ourselves and those around us so we can all better understand this sometimes debilitating disorder.
I wish you luck, and hope that you find a medication that works for you.
