Does your wireless router set a password?  

Mine isn't protected. We don't have this router for a very long time and tried to set it up but our laptops which goes wireless have some trouble connecting and for the computers which aren't going wireless it works fine. We tried several things but it just wouldn't get to work so we skipped it and we're satisfied as it is now. If I search with my laptop I find two networks near here which are also not protected.

Well I have 2 laptops at my home and I recently bought D-link wireless router.. I have password protected it with WEP encryption.. since now days there has been severe increase in crimes.. people might use your wireless internet for illegal use.. so its better to password protect your internet..

Setting a password is important, not just to keep other people from using up your bandwidth, but to protect your privacy. Anyone connected to your network can sniff the traffic and pick up all sorts of useful information, like passwords, credit card numbers, etc. And anyone connected to your network is one step closer to controlling your router than before. All they need to do is listen to the traffic for a few seconds to find the router's IP (assuming the router is not named the default NETGEAR or LINKSYS like most people leave it, which only makes it easier) and have a go at the admin login. The username is almost always the same, so they only need to try the default password or use a password dictionary before they're in complete control of your network. They can then cut off your access, boost the signal strength so they can access it elsewhere, modify the firmware to track your every move, etc. All because you didn't encrypt your wireless connection to begin with.
But don't encrypt with WEP or WPA. Those are easy to crack. Use WPA2 if you can.

I really want to put a password for my wireless router but I do not know how to do so. I am not lazy, I just have no idea how to. Can you teach me, please?

Yep, I am using a username & password on my wireless router so not everyone can use or share with its WiFi thing. I am also protrcting myself from people with bad plans while using the signal.

I don't have a password ,and I think a password is so confused,and I don't know how to protect it,can some one tell me?

Hi youless, I’m the only one in my house who uses computer to surf net daily so I usually use the landline broadband connection with a router with one ethenet USB port.

When my son back to home during his holiday we couldn’t share the router with one USB port only. We then will use the wireless router. Yeah, my son had set passwords when we first using the wireless router for security purposes. When having family gathering my nieces and nephews would bring their laptops along to share fun using them at the same time, so we would use the wireless router as well.

I will use the landline router again for my husband doesn’t courage me to use the wireless router for he worries that the wireless waves would cause harm to our health. I tell him nowadays most of the areas are under the wireless network coverage and we couldn’t worry too much. Anyway to let him at ease I just follow what he asks.

There is an antenna in the apartment where we get our wireless connection... when i brought my laptop office at home... that was when i found out that a wireless connection was available... but i cannot make a connection because it was password protected...

Two days after that... i saw my landlady and asked if i can access the net... and i will pay 250 php for my share of use... she agreed and told me to text his husband for the password... and that started my internet use at home... so i can mylot during weekends... or everytime i bring the laptop office at home...

I do have a wireless router. But I did not set a password to it. I am a bit lazy to do it. But I d better do it to prevent others from getting into my network.
