| My nine year old has sleep issues would melatonin be able to help? | | | | My nine year old has had difficulties staying asleep at night. We have tried many different things to help her with this problem. It's off and on she can go for a month or 2 sleeping fine then she'll be up due to "bad dreams" or just unable to go back to sleep. We have a white noise machine her room which helps her get to sleep at night and a firm bedtime routine in place. bath, reading, song, and sleep. we've tried a later bedtime and more physical activity during the day. None of which work consistently. So I was wondering if trying her on melatonin might be a good option as it is a natural substance your body releases anyway. Several friends have suggested it I was wondering on how you felt about it.I would appreciate any feed back you might have. | | | | | | | | | | Child Support Free consultation& Low Cost Legal Help. | | My response you may not like but I'm putting my two cents in anyway. The person you should be asking this question to is a DOCTOR not the general public on My Lot. No offense My Lotters but when it comes to a childs well being or for that matter anyones health a doctor you know and trust is always the best way to go. You know yourself that here on my lot you will have some people who agree with you and say yes give your child melatonin. Others will say try this or that instead. Your daughter is suffering from a sleep disorder and needs to be seen by a professional. Loving your daughter means getting the best help for her not asking the general public. Her disorder may be more serious then you think and by giving her over the counter items may worsen instead of help her. You need to find out the cause of the problem not try a bandade to help. | | | | | | | chobby3037 (158)

| | That's fine I appreciate your 2 cents. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it themselves. One of my daughters doc's did suggest it to me. My daughter has MR which contributes to lot of issues beyond sleep. Thanks for caring!! | | | | | | | Child Support Free consultation & Low Cost Legal Help. | | My doctor suggested I try melatonin for sleep, but it says on my bottle that it is "NOT INTENDED FOR PEOPLE UNDER 18". Also, I find that sometimes when I use it i feel really sick in the morning. I would avoid it. See a doctor and get something more appropriate for a 9 year old. | | | | | | | | | | Ask a Lawyer: Child Law 12 Family Lawyers Are Online! Ask a Question, Get an Answer ASAP.
