How do they decide which 2 teams play for the natyional title in college football? I know it's how many loses you have. Of course if you are undefeated you are ranked number 1. It's also the stregnth of the schedule, what conference a team is in, and how badly they beat their opponents. But this year alot of the top teams all have 1 loss. So how do they decide which 2 teams will play in the bowl game? You have teams like BYU and Boise state who are undefeated right now and aren't even mentioned because of the weak divisions they are in. They say that having playoff games wil ruin the whole college football system. I don't see how. I remeber Auburn was undefeated that year that Texas beat USC in the championship. They thought they had just as much right to be there as both those teams. So to me a playoff game between the best teams is absolutey fair. Let the top ranked teams battle it out to see which 2 will compete for the best in the nation. What do you think?

There are two main reasons I don't follow as well as I should. One, there are too many different rules compared to the NFL and the lack of a playoff. Why in the h*ll should a computer decide which team is better than another? Why not have the teams, and I mean All the teams, decide on the field?

It seems like every sport is like that except college football. The best teams who make it through the playoffs go on to battle it out in the championship. I truly believe it's all about TV ratings. The people behind the scenes have to make sure that the popular teams that the fans are familiar with make it to the championship game. That way the network that shows the game gets high ratings for that night. But try explaining that to the players who are busting their a$$ to win it all for their team and all their fans. It was the same discussion in the world series this year. They said know one would be interested in a Phillies vs Rays world series, because know one would watch. The players on the phillies and rays don't care about ratings. They are trying to win. Are they supposed to loose because because the statistics say that know one wants to see those 2 teams compete for a world series. Were they supposed to back down and let the Red Sox and Dodgers beat them, because every one wanted to see Joe Torre and Manny Ramirez in a world series at fenway.

I must confess that I wanted to see a Red Sox- Dodgers series for selfless reasons. They are both my teams. And when they didn't make it, I didn't watch the Series. But that doesn't mean that the series should have been canceled.I Know the fans in Philly are just as happy as the fans in either Boston or L.A. or Tampa would be.That's what the suits don't get. There are fans of college football who would Love to see a new, smaller team make it to the championship game.

I know that I am not the only one who thinks this. I think they should have either a 8 team playoff tournament or a 16 team playoff tournament to determine who the true best college team is. For instance, if you lose 1 game in your season, you are pretty much out of the bowl game. You have to go undefeated for a chance to play there.
In the NFL, they have a good playoff criteria. Last year, the New York Giants started the year off slow and finished with 6 losses. They caught fire at the right time and they were definately the best team at the end of the season and the playoffs. If they were in college, no way they can even make the championship game.
So I say, get rid of the BCS system and go with a 8 team playoff tourny.

The BCS system is a joke. Who are the morons that get to decide which 2 teams are the best in the nation? How are they gonna do it this year when all the top teams have one loss? It's all about money and ratings. The reason why undefeated BOISE ST and BYU aren't mentioned is because they play in weak confrences, knowbody ever see's them on TV, and the so called experts who make the decision on which teams are the best in the nation feel that knowone will watch a bowl game that has 2 teams that people aren't familiar with regardless of what their record is. Last year when LSU blew out OHIO ST early in the game, it wasn't even competives. I lost interest in the game pretty much after the 1st quarter. I was expecting to see a somewhat close and exiting game like the TEXAS vs USC game. The game I thought wast the most exciting was when the weak divisional championship game was one. I forget who undefeated BOISE ST was playing, but that game went into overtime, and it was the most exciting game I had watched next to TEXAS and USC. The trick plays that BOISE ST were pulling off, I thought maybe it should have been LSU and BOISE ST in the championship game.
