Do You Swear In Front Of Your Kids?

I must admit, that while I was a teenager, there were many a curse word strung throughout my conversations. But once I had kids, I no longer wanted to sound like a sailor or a truck driver. I'm not saying I'm perfect by any stretch of the means, and many a word does slip out, particularly when I am angry, but I do try to keep it fairly clean. How about you, do you swear in front of your kids?

When our children were little we made sure not to swear but also decided that certain "everyday" words were as bad as swears and forbade their use in our home; words like stupid, when used against a person, idiot, dummy, retard (I used to make students look it up and write sentences using it the correct way if they used it in class against another student), and any derogatory term against a person. When our son was in 3rd grade we found out how important this decision was to be for our family, he was diagnosed as having Tourette's and fortunately for us as he had never heard these words at home so he didn't pick them up for a verbal tic.

I don't swear... so i have no problem about that when i am around my daughter... i never liked swearing... even if i grew up where my parents and other relatives would constantly swear... So when i heard my two year old swear while playing... i was positive that she did not hear that word from me... and i realized that she got it somewhere else... good thing she did not say the word again.. since i told her it was bad to use it...
