How much pocket money do you give your children? We give our three pocket money once a month and we give them about £25 to £30. Seems a lot as when I was that age I used to get 50p per week. They do like to go choosing what they want and do make some very good choices

Hello Anne18 That does seem a lot but then my kids are still quite young to be giving that sort of money to and I don't have that sort of money to give my kids right now. At the moment they aren't getting any pocket money as Christmas is coming and they aren't doing anything to earn their money. In the new year I will start again, giving them insentives to earn their money!

The children are aged 11 9 and 9 and we only started doing it this year. Stuff is so dear in the shops if they were going to shop weekly with pocket money they would need five pounds each just to get something half decent, so at least if we give it to them once a month then they can buy something big and of value. It does sound too much to me but that is life, but they aren't having any pocket money until Jan now, so none for nov or dec as we need money for christmas etc, and thankfully they are quite happy about that. They wil still get the little bits I buy them from the pound shop etc

I understand that your kids are older with greater needs as that is the way things are these days, I know exactly what you are saying!

Hiya Anne, that does seem alot but then I suppose it is a months worth. My kids don't really get a set amount they just have money left right and centre and they have the opportunity to earn by doing chores.

They normally buy an indeo game which is mostly all the money gone. The children have set chores to do and don't get paid for them, I just tell them there is five of us living in the house so we all have to do jobs!! Cruel mother that I am. Everyone has set chores to do everyday. Don't see why hubby and I should do everyting!!

Mine have £6 a week each and this is in return for the set chores they are given to do around the house. If they earn merits or working hard stickers and certificates at school then they receive an extra 50p for each one. Out of their money they have to put £2 of that into their bank accounts and then they save the rest for around three weeks until they have enough for whatever it is that they are saving for.

for me it is still not the time so thst i can give money to my youngone as he is very small and only two and half years old. so there is still time and i think when we use to get the pocket money, at that time the money value was different and in that small amount of money we use to get many things and also save it sometimes but now the things are different and it is continue the same when our childrens grow up. so cant help we need to give them considerable amount so that they can use it for the things they want it.

we give our kids $10.00 per week IF they do their chores daily without being reminded. it has been a great motivator they are both boys ages 14 and 16. They save some and spend some. If they want something expensive like high dollar sneakers or eletronics or video games etc they have to save for it. If they don't do thier chores without being told, they still have to do them, they just dont get paid for it. Our 14 year old has over $200.00 in the bank and saves more than his older brother, who spends most of his money and only has abou $75.00 saved. it seems to work for us very well.

I have four daughters. Two have moved out now so I tend to give my younger girls a bit more. They get £3 everyday for School and would buy lunch with this. (not drinks or break) They always seem to have around £1 left everyday and my youngest has just bought a £10 top-up for her phone. On saturday I give then £10 each as they where going out with friends to watch a Movie. On Friday they got £5 each for going to the youth club. I think what you are doing is good as it teaches them to budget their money. I actually might start doing this. When I was a teenager I got £1 from my Dad on a Saturday. It lasted me well though.

When my daughter was a teenager I used to give her $10.00 a week but only if all her chores were done. I think it is a good way for young people to learn about earning and the value of money

My son is 6 yrs of age and we haven't looked at giving him pocket money as yet. He still has a lot to learn about being responsible but when he does do more than what is expected of him, then we do give the odd $1 or 50c here and there. We opened up a bank account for him a few weeks ago and banked all his coins that were in his money box. Now he wants to build up on it and watch his money grow.

My son is only 10 months so i never yet give him an allowance, but we are puttingmoney on his account which is £20 a month. Happy posting.
