yahoo mail spams

What do you mean yahoo spamming? They're actually spamming you on your email? That's odd, I've been using yahoo for a long time now and I haven't encountered such a thing.

If you meant there are still spam mails around even if you have turned your spam on, the perhaps there's nothing you could do but mark those as spam and report them, that's the only way to minimize these spammers, and also, be careful of clicking the 'join newsletter' and 'other ads' when you enroll at some prescription or ads. They actually give you a lot of junk mail in the end.

So there you go, if all else fails. Transfer to gmail or other mail carrier.

There are several ways in which your address can be found and used by spammers.

1) You have used the mail address to 'register' for unscrupulous sites. Some of these mails may be legitimate because, by using an email address to register, you will very often have agreed to receive mail from them (always read the Terms of Service and the Privacy policy of any site you join up to carefully!)

2) You have allowed your email address to be seen in Forums and discussion boards. Most reputable sites like this have a profile setting that allows you to hide it. NEVER, under any circumstances, put your email address into a discussion or forum post (or a comment on a blog).

3) You or your friends have forwarded jokes, 'friendship' mails or other mails without removing email addresses from them. Eventually these mails, often containing hundreds of valid addresses, end up in the mailbox of an 'address harvester' who will compile thousands of addresses onto a CD and sell it to spammers.

4) You have responded to or opened spam email. Many spam emails contain a very simple piece of code that tells the sender when the mail has been opened. In this way they know that the address is valid. It is never a good idea to 'unsubscribe' using the link at the bottom of an email if you are not sure that you subscribed in the first place. This is often used to collect email addresses for more spamming.

Additionally, spammers use software that 'makes up' addresses. Many of the emails they send are, of course, invalid but some will be valid addresses.

Yahoo Mail has a Spam filter which you can set to put unwanted mail straight into the Spam folder. Look at Options on the Yahoo screen and see what settings are most suitable for you. They range from rejecting all emails that don't come from addresses in your Contacts list to turning the Spam filter off. I find that Yahoo's Spam filter is not quite as good as Google's, though I do get less spam on my Gmail addresses.
