What is this Colon Cleanse?

So I've been hearing a lot of good things about a Colon Cleanse, either through a medical procedure, diet, or suppliments. I've also heard a lot of bad things... It seems there are two camps of people the first camp believes that over many years of eating, drinking, and breathing unhealthy products our body builds up a plaque that needs to be eliminated. Camp two believes that it is unnatural to cleanse your body from the toxins, and that if you use products to clean out your system, your body will forget how to eliminate toxins naturally. So what camp are you in, or do you even care?

My uncle did this a while back. He purchased the twenty dollar kit from walmart. He not only cleaned out his system he also lost weight in the process. They say its healthy to do it once a month. There are other natural ways to do it though. Like try eating nothing but fruits and/or vegetables for two to three days, but not to go to long with out protein. I haven't personally done any of the cleansing before but I attend on doing it sometime. I think I am waiting for the right time.

Thanks for the post, how much weight did your uncle loose, and did he combine this program with a diet and exercise, or just the cleanse?

I believed in internal body cleansing because it is one way of flusing out harmful chemical substances out of the body system to avoid chronic disease like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, in the future. Colon cleanse is a revolutionary practice in alternative medicine to detoxify the colon. Our colon is one of the most toxicated organs in the body because that is where the waste pass out of the system. If we have inadequate intake of nutritious food, the waste will hard to eliminate and will stick to the intestinal wall which later on progress in the form of certain diseases, the most common of this is colon cancer, which is one of the top 10 killing diseases in the modern world according to American Cancer Institute. Colon cleansing is a natural process of detoxification approved by some health professionals, it will not only eliminate deadly toxin, it will also prevent waste build up and constipation plus it also helps control weight gain. Though, our body has its own way of cleansing our internal organ but the presence of pollution, chemical substances and unhealthy diet hampered this unique body system operation, so it is best to adopt proper colon cleansing, aided with healthy lifestyle, exercise and self-discipline, this natural body cleansing can make us a more physically fit individual.

I think this sounds wonderful, and wonder why the medical community hasn't really been recommending this for more people. Especially for people over the age of 40, aren't they more susceptible to colon cancer? What do you think?

Well, constipation is very common these days. It is all my mom ever talks about, she is on a colon cleanse thing too! I don't think the average person needs it, but if someone is constipated and feels the need to clean out, if they're fatigued and feel full of toxins, it does seem like it would be refreshing. I don't know if it would make the body unable to eliminate toxins on it's own, but I'm sure that someone can either keep using it or eat better to keep their system going.

Proponents believe colon cleansing provides health benefits — by removing toxins from their bodies, and boosting their energy and their immune systems. But doctors take a different view. Although doctors may recommend colon cleansing in preparation for a medical examination of the colon, most don't recommend colon cleansing for better health or to prevent disease. This is because: * It's unnecessary. Your colon doesn't require enemas or special diets or pills to eliminate waste material and bacteria. It does this naturally on its own. * It may be harmful. Your colon absorbs water and sodium to maintain your body's fluid and electrolyte balance. Some colon-cleansing programs disrupt this balance, causing dehydration and salt depletion. Long-term or excessive cleansing programs can lead to problems such as anaemia, malnutrition and heart failure. If constipation is your concern, you can help prevent constipation without colon cleansing. Drink plenty of water and eat a diet rich in fibre. The Institute of Medicine offers these daily fibre recommendations.

Thank you for the explanation, it is very well worded. I wonder why so many people choose to ignore the concerns of medical doctors. Perhaps people don't trust doctors anymore, or maybe the benefits of weight loss outweigh the concern for medical problems down the line. What do you think?
