Braces,real or fad?

These days every other person is wearing braces,do so many persons have misaligned teeth or is just a fad these days?.I know that for many rappers,this is just a cool thing since they decorate theirs with so many other jewels like diamond and write their names in their braces and even give it a new name "grills".These rappers use it as a status quoa as those with the most diamonds get special bragging rights. I am wondering if its the same for the other persons I see .Is it now cool to be wearing braces since I am seeing so many kids with braces today.I remember back in my time when it was not so cool to be wearing braces. You may have an ear to the ground so you tell me ?
