I'm not crazy over fast food but I do like to have the occassional chicken nugget and fry from McDonalds. They should let people make their own decisions about fast food.

3. Childofares (27) | 1 year ago | Ugh. The best way to fight childhood obesity is to actually parent! I have friends that take their children to fast food places literally almost every day, don't play with them, let them sit around and watch TV/play video games and are baffled at why their children are overweight.
Then there are the ones who just won't tell them "NO!" I honestly don't know what they are afraid will happen when they say no. Maybe they want to be the cool parent? Or a friend and not a parent? I love my son but I'm not his bestest friend. I'm his Mom and with that it is my responsibility to make sure he eats correctly and as healthy as possible. The fast food people aren't to blame and shouldn't have their marketing restricted!

moonlitmagikchild (7151) | 1 year ago | i guess they figure it wont give them instant cravings like when i see something advertised a lot that looks good and eventually go get it... BUT kids dont have cars so obviously some one drove them through that drive through or whatever and paid for it!! but even that idea is stupid.. even if the world got rid of every thing fattening or unhealthy people would just over eat on HEALTHY stuff that would make them overweight still

6. p1kef1sh (5720) | 1 year ago | Fast food ads are banned in the UK during the times when children are most likely to be watching. In practice before 7pm. The UK has more obese children than any other european country. The US has something like a third of its 9-16 year olds falling into the obese bracket. personally I can't stand most of the pap that passes for fast food here. Maccas, BK etc could disappear so far as I am concerned. However, I am not sure what difference banning TV adverts will make. Maybe if they just have a boring man, reading a boring script that would have a bigger turn off effect.

moonlitmagikchild (7151) | 1 year ago | yeah its a horrible problem but the parents are the ones buying it for them so i would think it should fall on the parents.. but i think a lot of things should be the parents responsibility that the world doesnt think so lol..

p1kef1sh (5720) | 1 year ago | I agree with you about the parent's responsibilities. However, many young parents were not brought up properly in this respect. When I was a boy there were no fast food restaurants in the UK and if we went out we had a meal at a proper meal time. The burger generation have begat another burger generation and need to be taught that three meals a day plus a fast food meal is rarely good for you.

7. pheonixstar1982 (1299) | 1 year ago | Why don't we place the blame of childhood obesity where it needs to go, the parents. I think childhood obesity would not be such a problem if parents taught there children what is right to eat and not give them whatever they want. Teach children at an early age about a healthy diet. Why are we blaming fast food ads?? Its not like the ads are forcing kids to go eat the food, would it not be the parents who buy the food for the kids?? Seriously people are just trying to blame anyone they can and not wanting to take responsibility for there own actions.
I must add that i do not blame all childhood obesity on the parents, sometimes its genetics or a health disorder.

8. Tianna2 (1087) | 1 year ago | Hi Moonlit, this didnt work for certain alcohol ads and I question how well it worked with cigarette ads. What they should consider banning is bad parenting. I mean the free market is what made america what it is and these people are trying to destroy it just because a few parents cant watch what their kids eat. They really are trying to take away the free market, free speach and everything that made America great to begin with.
Cheers, Tianna

9. ahgong (3850) | 1 year ago | Hmm... Is banning fast food ad the only way? If that is the case, how are businesses going to go on if there is no advertisments?
If fast food is the source of obesity in children, why not ban the existence of fast food altogether? That way, it will not only help kids by not putting fat, greasy burgers in their laps, it will also help the country as a whole as people would have to seek alternative foods to satisfy their fast food hunger.
Seriously, sugar drinks is also a main source of children's obesity. Is there any research being done to prove that sugar is a source of children's obesity? Are they also going to suggest banning advertisments on sweets, chocolates, pastries, ice-creams... etc?

moonlitmagikchild (7151) | 1 year ago | they have gone after soda for awhile now.. some schools banned their soda machines and etc and only serve like juice, milk and water (yep schools used to have soda machines.. how stupid is that?)
| |
|
|
ahgong (3850) | 1 year ago | I do remember that! It happened here as well. All the primary schools are not allowed to sell sodas. The equivalent of your elementary schools in the states.
But in the schools where children are older, they are allowed at the school canteen stalls only.
Well, I do not know if that help much. What ever the child does not get in school, he can easily go home and get some during the weeking grocery shopping. I still do not see the rational in the ban.
