I hear a lot of people saying that getting a lot of backlinks for our site can help to improve search engine ranking. I am not sure what it means and why is it so? I think that a great site would not need a lot of backlinks because the contents on the site is the main things that will help in search engine ranking. So, how do you get backlinks for your site? Is it really useful to help improve search engines ranking?

It is partially true. Backlinks are important but not all backlinks. If the site that is linking to you is of the same niche and is a popular one then your page rank will be better. So the more important sites link to you the better is the relevance of your site. To get backlinks, there are many ways. - For example, you comment on other people blogs that are similar in content to you. - You can ask some site owners that have sites/blogs similar and which have a good page rank to exchange links with you. - Write articles and publish in sites like associated content. Good luck.
