How do you deal with people who like to demotivate others?

Economy is getting worse and believe me, 2009 is going to be much worse than what we have now. The bailouts by the governments of the world might be working, but how long can those last if the other companies keep screwing up? People are still losing their jobs, and unable to pay their debts.
And when everyone else is so demotivated, there will always be someone who comes to your path and try to demotivate you further. I have friends who keep complaining about their jobs being stressful and things like that. I can only say "hey dude, at least you have something to do which also means your job is secure than those who are jobless out there!"
That's my way of telling them off. I seriously don't like people to demotivate me when I'm trying hard to motivate myself.
One of my principles is ... you don't need to go through all the troubles to motivate people. The only thing you need to do is never to demotivate them. That should be good enough.
How about you? How do you deal with such people?
