Garbage can recycling rules are stupid!

i'm pretty sure that it's not just the state of Ny that recylces garbage. Are recyling rules are tas follows: one can for regular trash, one for drink boxes and plastic or metal containers. and one can for paper and all paper products. This is what I don't get. The orange juice and milk cartons are made from paper, but they don't go in the paper trash can. They go in the trash for the metals and aluminum foils. Why is that? It seems like the city of NY is breaking it's own recycling rules for a long time now. Maybe mayor Bloomberg needs to write himself a ticket for violating the rules of trash. Has anyone else but me ever noticed how dumb it is not to put a paper milk or juice carton in the trash can that's supposed to be used for paper products?

Wow, that sucks! I'm in California and we have 3 cans. One for regular trash, one for grass, plants, etc and one for all recycling materials. We put everything in the one can like plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum, etc. I'm guessing the company that picks it up will sort them out. I know if they gave out too many cans, many people wouldn't bother with recycling anything.

LOL......we don't recycle grass you silly monster. We just have a can for green waste. If it were the kind you grew in your backyard, I would surely be going around my neighborhood on trash day!

Juice boxes have two problems. #1 is that they are wax coated, #2 is that they are contaminated with food. Both of these things mess up the recycling process. IF you get too much contamination in a batch of recycling paper, it throws the whole thing off and you have to discard the whole batch. There are other things like this as well for example, Shopping bags, while plastic, tend to get stuck and clog up sorting machines, so many areas won't take them you have to bring them back to your grocery store.
