Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle or simply "Santa", is the figure who, in some Western culture, is described as bringing gift on Christmas Eve, 24th December or on his Feast Day, 6th December. The legend may have its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of Saint Nicholas. The modern depiction as Santa Claus as fat, jolly man (or gnome) wearing a red coat and trousers with white cuffs and collar, black color belt and boots, became popular in United States in 19th century due to the significant influence caricaturist and political cartoonist, Thomas Nast. In UK & Europe, his deception is often identical to the American Santa, but he is commonly known as Father Christmas. So, is a myth or a legend?

Hi meow. Saint Nicholas was a real person and he liked to give gifts. But the modern depiction created a character that is better for commerce. Santa Claus have a sympathetical face and a fat body like the oldfashioned grandfathers that remember family. I don't think that we can say it is a myth or legend. It is a commercial creation based in a real figure. Have a nice day.
