Do I need to convert in my husband religion? |
|
I was born and raised with my parents as a catholic, and now i married my husband with different belief. We discuss it before and he said that religion will not become our problem and i agree to him. We attended a mass in the catholic church already and i did to their church and i was very welcome to them. After the church they keep coming to me and introduce themselves. Now if i go to their church women keep asking me if i want to join in the women's group and sometimes they visit us at home and do the home teaching. My husband said that it's all up to me what ever my decision is. They're all nice and really friendly to all. What do you think?

I was raised catholic but my husband was strictly against the kids being raised catholic as he thinks it's too strict and intolerant. We were open to some other christian religions and ended up settling for the direction my husband was raised with although it's not his home church. In fact this particular branch is stricter and has a more traditional worship schedule than the one he used to attend. Kind of middle ground for us and it works.
You guys might want to do some soul searching to see what the perfect solution would be for you.

My boyfriend and I are of different types of religion. I am a Roman Catholic while he is a Protestant. This is actually one of the many issues we still have before we plan to get married. I think it's a logical issue to be solved first before going on because I don't like to be in a predicament wherein when we do have kids we'd go on separate religions or churches to hear mass, it would not only be confusing but it fosters distance between us.
So we plan to do this instead. Both of us agree to go to different churches for a least 6 months or so. Meaning I'd go to his church for six months and then he'd go to mine for the next six months. Then we would discuss which religion we should go into as a family. It's not a matter of environment or community we're in, what matters is that we could believe in one religion.
I myself am very much rooted with Roman Catholicism, it's not because there are communities or something like that, I fully understand my religion and have strong beliefs in our sacraments etc. On the other hand, he is also deeply rooted in his religion. That's why there's an issue between us. But I know, in God's grace, He would help us make the right decision.
So, as for you, it's up to you. What do you truly believe in? I do hope you're not choosing religion based on how welcoming a community is. That's not a good way to decide. You should believe in your heart of what they preach. You should see if the religion truly follows Christ's teaching not only within the church but also in the way people live. And most importantly, don't go to a religion who's main goal is to convert as many people as they could. After all, salvation is individual, it isn't which group you are in, it doesn't even matter how active you are. What matters is that you have imbibed what you are taught even if nobody is looking.
=)
Good luck!

The best thing I believe to really find a true religion is to base what you learn in the bible. The basic question is: are all what you believe coincides the biblical teachings? There is no specific religion to really be sought to in order to have belongingness and as I said its your decission if you wanna be converted to your husband's religion by now. On the otherhand being in one faith is a plus factor in marraige but in your case, this is a crucial decission you have to really think of.

5. ronaldinu (7780) | 1 year ago | I hate fundamentalist groups. There is no harm in attending their service however if I were you I would keep hold to my beliefs. Being nice is one thing being insistent is another. i would make them clear that I am going to remain firm in my belief and that to avoid displeasure certain subjects should not be brought between you two.

6. John4Christ (1023) | 9 months ago | I assume that you both are Christians as you have used the term church in the above context, well i believe that if you both follow the same god ie jesus then i dont feel there can be any problem, offcourse the way people worship might differ but the very fact that is is all done for the glory of same god it really makes no difference....but its my personal view that if your husband follows some other god or religion it wont be a good idea to convert into his religion...
