Do you tell your child there is a Santa?

I love the Santa tradition but when considering it...I'm not so sure it's a good thing. I was hurt when I found out there was no Santa not so much because there wasn't one but because it had been a lie.It made me question alot more...however if you are honest with your child you run the risk of a mob of angry parents whom which your child has spilled the beans to their kids.lol..What do you do?

we didn't want our son to be upset later in life when he finds out there really is no santa but we wanted him to be involved with the fun of hanging out his stocking and putting our milk and cookies. Right from the start (he was about 2 years old), we told him there is no such thing as santa but we can pretend there is. he's always known it was daddy but still gets to hang his stocking at Christmas and put out milk and cookies. Every Christmas Eve, he calls daddy "daddy clause". he thinks it's a fun game. we told him that other kids might believe there is a santa and that's okay. he is almost 8 years old and has never "spilled the beans" to other kids.

I'm having the same problem! I think I'm going to have a talk with all mine this year. Like you said, they are going to figure it out, then they will feel betrayed. Plus, under my circumstances, I better start teaching them young because my older children are ungrateful little monsters! They need to realize how hard life really is!

They'll appreciate the things they get more if they know you had to work for them instead of Santa cruisin in on a sleigh. It's also easier to explain when one X-mas is better than the other one was.

My daughter is 2 and I don't plan to do the santa thing. My outlook on it is I won't confirm or deny Santa, Easter bunny, Tooth Fariy and what ever else. I will let her belive in what she wants because I'm sure others will talk about Santa and she will inevitably wonder. My hope is that I can find the correct words when the time comes to talk about it.
