My maltese/poodle mix just got spayed today and I am heartbroken! |

| My maltepoo just got spayed today and I honestly am heartbroken. She is my first puppy and only 4 months old. Before today, she was my happy-go-lucky baby--always jumping around and busy, busy, busy! But now she is just laying down (understandably after such a major surgery) and every time she fidgets, she yelps in pain (because she's accidentally rubbing her incision). I feel SO guilty for having her spayed, but I know that it was the right thing to do. Can anyone offer any words of encouragement to help me through this? Can you give me an idea of how long it will take her to begin feeling better? I am coming to tears while writing this--thinking about the pain my baby is going through. Thanks. | | | | | |

| | It'll be ok Reeta. In about a weeks time your little baby will be back to normal. I've gone through this several times and the first couple of days are tough, but it gets better quickly. Chin up. Its nice to meet you and welcome to MyLot. Oh and say hi to that cute little baby for me. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for your response, Dr. Mario, and thanks for the warm welcome. I really appreciate it. There's a lot to learn out here on myLot, but I hope to get acquainted very quickly! My baby Bella says hello back. She's already making me feel better by wagging her tail! That IS a good sign, right? :) Thanks again. | | | |

| | There is nothing finer in the world than a dog wagging its tail. It brought a smile to my face. Thanks for that. I hope Bella is back to herself very soon. | | | |

| | Awe, I know how you felt. I had my maltese spayed when she was a baby and it was hard on me too. I see it's been 3 months since you posted this, so your baby is completely healed by now. It goes fast doesn't it? I do feel for you. I know its a hard thing to go through. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks, Cami. Yes, it was really hard the first couple days after the surgery, but after that, Bella was back to her normal self and ready to play! I had to work hard to keep her from over exerting herself! LOL. And she looked so funny trying to play with that Elizabethan collar on her head--she kept falling over and bumping into things. :) But we made it, thank goodness, and now she is 100% healed. I can't even see a scar. :) How old is your Maltese and what's her name? | | | |

| | My baby is now 8 years old and her name is Jordan. It's funny though, they didn't put one of those things around her neck. I guess it was up to me to make sure she didn't mess with her stitches. She didn't, so there was not problem, so that was good. I just remember it was hard to see her looking so sick, even though she was just recovering. I wanted so bad just to take it all away for her and make her feel better. She is truely the light of my life. | | | |
