Phentermine and dieting  email this discussion to a friend?

silvergillies (47) 4 years ago

I just started a new program on Thursday. It's called the "doctors' diet program" I filled out some paperwork, they weighed me, and after a five minute conversation with the doctor, they gave me a folder, and a 30 day supply of phentermine. I also had to sit through a 45 minute lecture by an overweight gentleman telling me what I can and cannot eat. The fact that he was obviously overweight at first through me off, but apparantly he had lost over 150 pounds already. So anyway the base of the plan is exercise 30 minutes a day 3-4 times a week. Take the pill, they also tell me to take calcium at bedtime, and a multivitamin. They sell these and a few other staples like CLA, and Hoodia. They don't pressure me to buy anything extra, so it made me feel better. The proble I had with the whole thing is the diet. It's a low carb thing, like Atkins. No bread, crakers, potatoes, pasta, fruit, milk, yogurt, ice cream, and no sweets. I have researched and read that it will help you lose a lot but if you ever go off the diet, you gain it back, just as quick as you took it off. I want to make a lifestyle change, and I know I need to eat differently, but this diet just seems strange to me. All meat, eggs, nuts, and veggies.

My question to you guys is, do you think that if I just take a few of the principles of this diet it'll still work. I weigh 226 to start and I need to lose at least 75 to be happy with myself, since I'm only 5ft tall. SO here's what I do, I guess I just need a little reassurance that what I'm doing will work.

I exercise 30-45 minutes everyday on my gazelle. I take the phentermine in the morning, and a multi vitamin. At night I take the calcium before bed. Diet wise I am trying to phase out soda (my one weakness) I've cut down from 7 a day to only 1 or 2, eventuallly i'm aiming for no soda, except everynow and then. I eat some FIber one cereal or weight control oatmeal for breakfast. Lunch I eat cottage cheese, or some ham slices and string cheese, or some raw veggies and light ranch dip. Dinner maybe baked chicken breast, or turkey burger, lean steak, and or salad and some veggies here and there. Snacks consist of a handful of nuts, an apple, a banana, cucumber slices, or those quaker mini rice cakes. I also am looking into that low calorie progresso soup, and V8 and some other things I've heard that are ok. Does this sound ok to those of you who have lost weight before?? Thanks for reading
