Back Home Again.... FINALLY!! |
| |
| Hubby and I got back last night around 11pm and we're dogged butt tired!! My hands are so dry from all the cleaning. My nephew really did a job on my parent’s house. It was an absolute pig sty! Hell, a pig is cleaner than that!! The stench was incredible!! Cat pee smell was everywhere!! UGH!! My nephew and his roommate couldn't have known what cleaning is or how to clean!! It took me four and a half hours to clean the half bath!! Four and a half hours!! There's just a sink and a toilet, that's it!! It was just that AWFUL!! Words cannot describe the filth. I found a dead mouse by the toilet!! UGH!! I told mom that there's no way in hell that I'm sleeping in that house until it's cleaned up because it's so gross!! I was going to sleep either in my car or use my credit card and get a room in town but thankfully, hubby shampooed the carpet after I vacuumed. We have an electrolux vacuum, one of the best in the world and we went through 5 vacuum bags!! Now do you have an idea how dirty it was?! GEE MEE MOSES!!!! There were about 25 to 30 trash bags outside by the time we got there!! I'm talking about lawn sized bags!! It was incredible!! Unbelievable!! Shampooing the carpet brought out even more cat hair and debris so we had to vacuum again and again to get it all. 5 vacuum cleaner bags mind you!! A 1400 square foot house, small, and it took 5 vacuum bags!! The first two nights we were up till 3am cleaning, the third and fourth nights we were up till 1 and the last night we collapsed early at 11:30. We just couldn't keep going like we were because we were working from the time we got up until we went to bed and wore ourselves out. Hubby did his best on the main bathroom and he used all kinds of cleaners to get the tub clean and couldn't. Can you guess what it took? SANDPAPER!! It took sandpaper to get the grim out of the tub!!!! It took hubby an hour to sandpaper the tub clean and STILL there were stains that wouldn't come out!! We had cleaned the whole house from top to bottom and then painted the whole house. A friend of mine came and helped for one day, other than that, hubby and I did it ourselves. We cleaned the ceiling fans, windows - inside and out, the front and back screen doors, all of the cabinets - inside and out, vacuumed, shampooed, scrubbed the floors, painted the whole place, and replaced two toilet seats, light fixtures in the master bedroom fan, kitchen sink faucet, changed the locks and did some repairs too. We couldn't do all the repairs because we didn't have all our tools but we did what we could. My oldest brother will do the others once he's well again. He had surgery for skin cancer on his face and neck and has more to go later on. The realtor came by to take new pictures and was amazed at all the work we had done. She thought mom and dad would have to replace two carpets but we were able to save all of them!! Yippee!! So now EVERYTHING in that house is CLEAN!! The realtor thinks it'll sell now, much quicker than it would've.... if ever, the way my nephew had it. It took us from Wednesday afternoon to yesterday afternoon to get it all done but we did it!! Then on the way home we had to stop by my parents place to drop off some things and got some bad news. Dad had gone to the VA hospital for his appointment and had some blood work done. Cancer is showing up once again. We don't know yet where it is but the doctor wants to find out really soon. Talking about a blow. That really blew me away and popped a dozen of my balloons. I've said for a while now that I don't think I have my parents for much longer and I fear that I may be right. What a bittersweet moment coming home, huh? To turn this into a discussion, did you guys miss me? | | | | | |

| | OH, man, Cats! How can I respond to this? I'm so filled with emotions right now! Well, first off, yes, I missed you! You're such a great addition to the myLot family! You are most definitely missed when you're gone. I've thought about you every now and then, knowing what you've been doing and what a hard job you had! I'm very happy that you accomplished so much in such a short time! That's totally awesome!!! If you ever need work, I'll hire you!!! Heck, I'll think up stuff for you to do. Hahaha! You're quite a hard worker! Well, you and your husband... you definitely make a great team! I'm so very sorry that you came home to such news, though! My mother was diagnosed with cancer only once and that was 3 weeks before she died so I can't say I know exactly how you feel, but I can relate! She was diagnosed ONE DAY before she was to sign a contract for her very own, first ever brand new house. She was so excited about it! Then, such a terrible blow! If cancer is showing up AGAIN, that is not a good sign. I'm so sorry for you! With your mother's health and now your father! Just remember that you have myLot to come to if you need to vent or need a shoulder to lean on. There really are a lot of terrific people here, aren't there? This is your extended family. If there is anything that I could do for you, just say the word, okay? You'll be in my thoughts. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Marti!! Thanks for your sweet words!! You're too kind, ya know? Gosh, hubby and I woke up this morning and our eyes are swollen and we're dragging our feet behind us, we're so dogged tired!! We did our best, that's for sure. My brother came by and said we did a hell of a job! lol Then he called mom and dad and really expressed how good of a job we did!! Finding that out really made our feathers puff out like a peacock!! lol Yeah, when hubby and I set out to do something, we do it right the first time or we don't waste our time. It's as simple as that. As for dad and cancer, cancer is cancer no matter how one experiences it. It's a hell all our own. It's just that it's wrong timing but then again, when is it ever the right time? Never really. But I just wanted to see them both enjoy the sell of their house and money that they'll get before they go. It may not happen but who knows. Life isn't fair, is it? I just hope that the other side is better than it is here on earth. I've heard such wonderful things about "Heaven" and can only hope that it's consulation enough if they don't get to enjoy life here on earth. I know that didn't sound right but I'm sure you know what I'm "trying" to say. I will be here telling all the updates because yeah, you all are such wonderful friends to me and I can't thank you enough for that!! Without you guys, I don't think I'd have my sanity for this long. Seriously. | | | |

| | I understood what you were trying to say. I feel the same way. Sometimes, I believe Hell is right here on Earth and our 'reward' for getting through it is when we leave it. I have the feeling your parent's house will sell soon enough for them to enjoy a bit of that money. As in another of your responses here, the cancer in your father's blood may be nothing or at least caught early enough to easily "fix". Let's hope so! Anyway, I just looked up on a map where you live. Do you know it's only about 50 miles from the house I own in Halifax, Virginia? I had no idea you were that close! Well, I live 250 miles north of there, but I do visit that house occasionally, especially now because I'm trying to get it ready to sell. It ALMOST resembled the way you described your parent's house when you got there! I bought this house as a foreclosure and the people who owned it were worse than pigs! I had to wash down the walls, ceilings, of course the floors and carpet, repair holes in the walls, replace molding around doors and windows, etc. Yeah, that was pretty bad, too. Not nearly AS bad as what you just dealt with, though. I only had to scrub the tubs and showers with scouring powder, not sandpaper! Geesh! I just wanted to say that because I was amazed at how close you are to my house there. You take care of yourself and rest when you need to! You've just been through something that was not only physically draining, but very much emotionally draining! That's why you've been crying all day... it's a release from all that you've just gone through. I'm glad you're getting it out, too! It's good for you. You take it easy for now, okay? | | | |

| | hi Sis I missed you a lot not only in mylot and I wondered how you were doing at that place. I suspected that the place was a pigsty but I didnt think it was as bad as youi described it here. But now you are through that and I hope your older brother will not come up with more silly excuses for the repairs. Even when he has a bit of surgery for skin cancer that was not on his hands and he can work with them instead of only sitting on his bum and let sweet MB do the dirt work. The news about your dad are shocking and I hope they find the cancer soon and can treat it so it disappears thoroughly. It has been a day from he11 here too nothing went right, absolutely nothing and if I were not on all these meds I would get drunk (knowing it would not help much though). | | | | | | |

| | hi Cats, thats really bad and I can imagine quite well what you were going through in getting that place cleaned out and presentable. In fact I have never seen or read anything as gross as what you describe here not even in my students times when I was in a boarding house in the town where I studied librarianship. Believe me I have seen quite a bit there among my fellow students but this is by far the WORST I have seen yet. | | | |

| | Of course I missed you, I too have been gone because I thought my computer was broken..(see my post on that, what a nightmare).. Back to your discussion, WOW.. That is a lot of garbage and trash and, I can't imagine a home that dirty..I complain because my family collects junk and leaves piles everywhere, but there are no dead animals in the house and the places that can be cleaned, are very clean..4 hours to do a half bath..I can't believe it took that long..Too bad you didn't hire in someone and make your nephew pay, but I guess that would be like getting blood from a turnip, no money... I hope that your nephew saw the problems he caused, but he probably didn't..But if he didn't learn how horrible it was what he did, it will come back on him.. | | | | | | |

| | I honestly don't think he realizes the problems he's caused or it's a matter of he doesn't care about anything other than himself. I thought so highly of him for so long and to know better now is a real disappointment. Yeah, getting a cleaning crew and having him pay for it would be just that, getting blood from a turnip. He owes so much to so many people that I heard he's thinking of filing for bankruptcy. But the thing is, he's stupid enough to get himself right back into the same situation he's in now. I don't wish the jackass any harm or any bad luck but I do wish him good ridance. BE GONE! | | | |

| | Hi Oreo.... I did get sick the very next day. My sinus' were so backed up that I had a terrible sinus headache. That place was absolutely unbelievable!! 5 damned vacuum cleaner bags!!!! Them darned things are EXPENSIVE!! Most were full of cat hair and then once they were vacuumed, we shampooed which pulled up even more cat hair which looked like balls of lint everywhere! It was absolutely unbelieveable!! When I first walked in the front door, my jaw dropped to the floor!! I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! I so wanted to rip him apart!! Man I was absolutely furious!! ARG!! As for Sassy, we ended up leaving her here. She caused such a ruckus in the car that I just didn't have the heart to take her on that long trip so we took her back and prayed hard that she'd be ok and she was just fine when we got back. Whew!! I was worried sick about her the whole time and even asked our friends to check on her to be sure she was ok and she was. I don't know what kind of cancer dad has yet. We should know sometime on Thursday or very soon after. Man what a blow that was!! It was a bittersweet moment because we had finally got the house done and are so close to home and then to be told this. I've so had enough Oreo that I'm close to a nervous breakdown. I've cried and cried most of today because I just can't contain it anymore. Plus I know it's because I'm dogged butt tired too but I don't want to sleep my day away because I'll be up all night then. Hugs to you my sweet hearted friend!! | | | |

| | Yes you were missed very much. I am so very sorry about cancer showing up in your dad. I hope its easily treatable. Good going to you and hubby, getting the house cleaned up. Thats unreal (I do believe you) about how gross and dirty the house was. How can someone live like that. You and hubby deserve a break. You got a good hubby cats, he sounds like a terrific guy. Welcome back, I am so happy that the big "chore" is done. I am hoping the house sells quickly and for a decent price. Take care, now hopefully you can get some R&R. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Polly! I've missed you too!! I had wondered how you and everyone else was fairing while hubby and I were up there working our @sses off! lol I have pictures but they don't do justice of the dirt but it does show a lot but not nearly as much as it was. Seeing it in person really tells all. How in the world can anybody survive in such a pig sty? I had a horrible sinus headache and my sinus' were so stomped up the very next day and that was AFTER we had vacuumed and shampooed the carpets! Now that tells you something doesn't it? The realtor was right happy and thinks it'll sell now and we sure hope and pray so! That'll be one huge load off all our shoulders, no doubt. I'll keep you updated on dad. What a balloon popper, huh? Such a bittersweet moment to finally be finished with that damned house and being so close to home only to get news like that. It really did me in and I've done nothing but cry all day long. I'm so ready for next year in hopes it'll be better. It HAS to be damn it!! It has to be!! | | | |

| | Hey catsanddogs! Welcome Back! Yup! I missed you! And I am so glad that you finally got everything done! It must be such a relief to have finally gotten all that work over with. And it did sound like quite alot of work. And considering all that stuff that you and hubby did it really didn't take you that long! I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that they can find wherever the cancer is and be able to take care of it right away. I will be praying for him. I really am glad that you are back and that you were able to get all that work done so now you can breath again. And hopefully now the house will sell soon! | | all THAT for a 1400square foot house?! omg i cant even imagine how truly atrocious it must have been when you first got there! how long was your nephew living there for it to get so bad? i dont think ive ever even heard of anybody having to take sandpaper to the tub! thats bad..real bad. in sadder comment...i am sorry to hear about your father showing cancer symptoms again. have they caught the signs early enough to have a positive outlook in beating it to remission? | | | | | | |

| | Yup, all that and then some. Even after vacuuming and shampooing all the carpets, the next morning I had an awful sinus headache and my sinus' were stomped up! But thankfully with fresh air flowing through and medication, I was able to clear that up and keep going and finished everything in 5 days. We were up at all hours of the night and day trying to get out of there. Dad sees his doctor tomorrow so hopefully he'll know more on the cancer scare soon. We don't know anything else on it till then. | | | |

| | Of course I missed you!. You guys are awesome...I could not put in the constant hours you both do. I had a feeling your nephew was going to leave the house putrid. Actually, I'm surprised he is out of the place...he has gone - hasn't he??? What happened about all his cats? Was the cat smell eradicated from the house? That's bad news about your Dad I hope you all get some goodness into your lives soon...you are all due...there's only so much a body can take. Take care sweet pea. | | | | | | |

| | LOL Thanks MsTickle! I missed you guys too!! Every day I got up, I thought of you all and wondered how everyone was faring. Yeah, my nephew really did a job on that house. I couldn't believe it. I expected it to be dirty and in need of paint but good grief!! I told my mom that I was NOT going to stay in that house overnight unless we got the floors cleaned up which we did. Got the one dried so we could blow up the mattresses to sleep on thanks to the ceiling fans. Gosh, that place was horrible!! We got all the cat pee smell out the best we could. The cats are fine in good homes. As for dad, he had his body scan yesterday so hopefully soon we'll find out where the cancer is and hopefully get rid of it. I'll keep you posted!! Hugs!! | | | |
