Another Elected Official gets caught!

Why do elected officials feel that they are above being caught and prosecuted for their wrongdoings? The last governor of Illinois is serving prison time and now the present governor is charged with the crime of trying to sell an appointment to the Senate. Being from the southwestern part of the state of Illinos we seem to have little influence when it comes to picking someone to run for governor of our state. The political power seems to always be stationed in the northeastern part know as Cook County. Governor Blagojeviche's character has been a discussion for some time at the coffee shops in our area. Though it's an insult to the citizens of Illinois, it is a proven fact that the last few governors elected to office have had devious ties with persons that aren't favorable. Now the question arises, who will have the power to select the person to take Senator Obama's place. And how will this person be appointed. Though charges are being placed against Rod Blagojevich, it still has to be proven and he has to be convicted. Many persons are calling for his impeachment if he doesn't resign from his office. For impeachment it would take a resolution, hearings and vote in the House, then a trial in the Senate. All of this would take time and could very well run past the time for the new Senator to be sworn into office. The person in line to step up to the Governorship, should Blagojevich step down or be impeached would be the Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn. It will be very interesting to see how all of this washes out in the end.

As of this moment, as sad as it maysound, the governor still is the one who will choose the replacement. Now if charges stick and there is an indictment, the state senate I'm sure, if not already in the process of, will impeach and officialy remove him from office. but until that happens, even if he goes to jail, he will still be the governor and responsable for making the decision.

They're now saying that they may hold a special election to elect a replacement to take Obama's Senatorial seat.

I think he should step down and save the State a lot of money.

I agree, he should step down but I doubt that he will. I believe he will fight it to the end. Impeachment will probably take several months, so they may have an election to choose the Senator.
