I am a registered health care aide in Canada. I just finished my course this October. Hopefully soon Iwill get off my butt and start applying at some homes for the aged. I was a student in one for five months and I really enjoyed it. Do any of you work in a home or hospital? How long have you been at your job? Do you like it or wish you could have taken something else? I think for myself it's good for now. But I do want to go to school and have another course under my belt so I can one or the other to fall back on.

I worked for 5yrs as the life/safety director in a nursing home. If you enjoy talking, listening (the stories are great),being around the elderly then it truly is a good field.the only bad part for me was getting attached to them and then they pass away.It can get to you. as an aid , there are several things about that job that I just could not do,I commend anybody that can.It takes a special kind of person and they by no means get the praise they deserve.good luck I hope you enjoy it and "them" as I did.

I admire the people who work in this area very much, I volunteered in a Nursing Home after my mother passed away in one, so over the eight years in all I spent there I saw how hard these people work, and how emotionally attached some of them became to the residents, I hope you do well in this areaas these people need to be treated with all the respect in the world..I wish you well.
