How much we depend on electronics. No power yesterday. email this discussion to a friend?

Not sure where this fits but I figured it's part of life. Do we really know how much we depend on electronics? Basically we had a blackout yesterday for about 2 hours. I was playing on my lapop at the time when everything shut off. I had to stumble my way around and use my cell phones screen as a flash light to find candles and a lighter. After lighting a few candles I noticed the street lights were out as well. I tried to send a text message to my cousin and they failed to send. Tried making a couple calls and those too failed. About 5 minutes into it my Mother called to see if we had power. She was a couple towns over and the power was out there as well. At that time I resent my text and it went through. My cousins is further away and lost power as well. Basically a couple of counties lost power do to a transformer fire..

Now I had about half hour of battery on my laptop so I played a couple games till it died. Then I grabbed my video IPod and luckly I had some shows on it. I think if I didn't have any of those things I'd go crazy. I started to think about what it would be like without them and it sucked. I don't know how people stayed busy in the past without loosing there minds. So how about you guys? Do you depend on electricity and electronics as much as me? What sorta Things would you do without them?

I think alot f people are very dependant on electronics. Not just in the home but at the office. We use computers for almost everything now. I use my laptop at home for fun to browse, play games, etc. And at work all of our accounts and things I do all day everyday are on a computer so if we didn't have electricity it would be a WHOLE different world now. So many people and business depend on electricity that I'm not sure they would know what to do without it.

Same here. At work if we lose the internet even for a few minutes, our phones go crazy and people complain that they can no longer do their jobs.:)

ya electronic become must and should in human life now but when we are using this technology i mean like computers it is also an electronic based instrument. If the power had gone then i cant live with out fan. In nights if there is no power then i wont get sleep and i will walk around the home or i will walk on th eterrace of the home. And every instrument is based on power only if there is no power then there is no instrument and we dont have any developed and undeveloped countries then all are equal

I don't do well in heat myself. Couple years ago we had same thing happen but was in the middle of summer. It was much longer and its kind of hard to fall asleep when your pretty much sweating like crazy. So I agree that I'd need some AC or atleast a fan to get by.

I would say that we are dependant on electricity since like 80 percent of what we do in a daily life needs the stuff to run...shower, laundry, dishes, etc. etc.

I think I could do ok without electricity for a little while as long as there was enough light in the rooms I was in, whether by outside daylight or candlelight. However, after dark, forget it. I would get bored because I couldn't see. lol

It was pretty much pitch black. Its hard to go from a room with lights to all the sudden dark. I walked down the street some and there was no lights anywhere. It was kind of creepy. I would be ok during the day but total darkness I'd go crazy. hehe
