Athletes getting caught with drugs. How does this happen? |
| |
| I just came across an article where a player in the NFL Matt Jones, a wide reciever for the Jacksonville Jaguars, will be suspended for the rest of the season for a cocaine bust that happened a few months ago. The report is that he was caught by a police officer sitting in his car cutting up cocaine with a credit card. Some of the ways these guys get caught is like they are asking for it. If you are going to do drugs, I would think you would keep it in the privacy of your home. But then again maybe some of these guys have families and don't want them to know about it. But then you have the ones that get caught because they were driving drunk, or speeding, or both, and the police search their cars and find drugs in the car. It seems to be the same story over and over. Athlete + drunk + speeding + drugs = JAIL! I always say to myself how the hell do these guys keep getting caught? And you here the report and it's the same story all the time. Police officers saw the vehicle swerving in the street and they pulled him over. Maybe these guys are asking for help. They go out and get drunk, maybe because they have a drinking problem. Or they go score some drugs because they have a drug problem, and they get behind the wheels of their cars and drive as wreckless as they can, bringing attention to themselves hopping that the cops wil catch them, witch will lead to them being ordered to go to rehab. I'm not condoning drug use, but you would think that these guys would be a little more careful with their illegal activities. | | | | | |

| | well I can undertstand steroids and performance inhancers for competition even though it's still illegal. But cocoaine and heroin aren't used for a competitive edge. I have seen too many reports of athletes getting busted with drugs and drunk driving. | | | |

| | That has nothing to do with cocaine which actually would reduce performance not increase it. This is a personal drug that is bad for you not a performance enhancing drug. The pressure just gets too much for some of them and they want to escape. Taking cocaine would be more likely to impede, damage his performance. So your comment makes no sense. | | | |

| | Maybe it's because their inner frat boy comes out in them again and they get the urge to do something stupid or to show off how cool they are. I'm sure that athletes on the professional level get very egotistical when it comes to getting drunk just like the way they are in sports. On drugs though there are people that just like drugs and want to do them everywhere they can because it makes everything feel better. They keep getting caught because they are famous and are constantly being followed by someone everywhere. | | | | | | |

| | It's not just athletes as I have seen first hand that there are everyday plain jane that have been caught doing the same thing. So why should Jones be the center of scrutny. Just because he is a professional athlete doesn't mean that he isn't human. He is just like us but put in an all star nfl player. People get caught because it is in their vehicle since you do have to transport it from point a (being the dealers meet up location) to point b (taking it home). Maybe he was doing it in his vehicle because he doesn't want his family to know. There are many reasons why he was doing it in his vehicle. | | | | | | |

| | I think most athletes who achieve star status may have been pampered to the point that they think the rules do not apply to them. They are after all the royalty of America, sharing the spotlight with movie stars and the rare politician. There are some privileged in American society, the attractive, the rich, and the famous. Sometimes you can morph one into the other. Like Tom Cruise is attractive but a terrible actor but he is rich because of his looks and now is famous because of his looks. Paris Hilton is rich and attractive and is now famous because of the other, she has no talent for anything other than being famous for essentially no reason. Admittedly most athletes tend to gain fame and fortune on talent alone, but usually need a drug boost to get them ahead of the competition that is also using drugs to get ahead. Somewhere along the way all that privilege and money and fame breeds a sense of entitlement though. | | | | | | |

| | Well the type of drugs I'm referring to have nothing to do with getting a competative edge on the competition. That's the 1st time I've heard someone say that Tom Cruise can't act. I'm not a big Cruise finatic but that's surprising to here. I totaly agree with Paris Hilton. She's famous because of her parents and has no talent at all. Look at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's daughter. The stupid media has turned her into a star already. | | | |

| | Its a part of many athletes i believe. i am no athlete but i heard about one thing. there are concentrated foods that almost every sports persons take. of course what they take will differ. it is said that taking such a food (some type) and doing gym works increases the prohibited hormone level in the body. even such food items have to be avoided. but the food actually does not have anything bad. in such cases some will have the residues left in them to get them caught. | | | | | | |

| | Sports administrations have this quaint idea that sportsmen should be examples for the youth of today to aspire to, and so that come down heavily on them for recreational drug and alcohol abuse. I don't have a problem with the law clobbering them, that's only as it should be. But I do think it's extremely naive of the sports people to take this attitude, since surely they should know better than most that these sportsmen are, with some exceptions, nothing more than a bunch of immature, not very bright, arrogant louts who happen to have one very marketable skill and no brains to back it up. Role models? My a$$. Lash | | | | | | |

| | Why? They are treated like Gods, like heroes and they think they can do no wrong. Why would the law have anything to do with Gods and heroes? We treat sports people like they can do no wrong. Often they are just ordinary people with sports skill and the attention, the adoration goes to their heads. They start to believe the hype but the stress gets to them and the next thing you know you have a sports player on heroin and he has problems. They do not see it as a crime just as part of the scene. They get caught in the net and then it all goes wrong and they do not understand what is happening. Much the same as rock stars. | | | | | | |

| | I know, I heard about this story too. I think many athletes are under a lot of pressure to perform well which is why they either go crazy and go on shootouts or get drunk or high haha. But seriously, some drugs help them become "better" sportsmen or individuals. it's sad though because drugs isn't the real cure, it just gives temporary aid. And you have to remember that athletes are human too. I'm not saying that we ought to cut them some slack, but since they're just like us, you can't expect them to not do drugs just because of their profession. | | | | | | |
