I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Yesterday after I dropped off a book at the library I decided to scan the DVDs and came across this. Had never seen it up until now and I love movies made from plays (if done correctly) and plus it had Johnny Depp who is a native from the twn I grew up in (Owensboro, KY). So I figured why not. So last night after I Lotted and did a few other things I turned it on...and all I can say is WOW. Even though it is very difficult to make a musical worth watching by today's standards...and I either love the Depp characters or hate them...or I either love Burton films or hate them.... And after watching it and thinking about Edward Scissorhands which I am quite certain is another Burton film with Depp...the two are just synomos for great filmmaking in the odd ways they both view the cinema. Oh and for anyone who has kids this movie is graphic and there is a lot of bloddy scenes (again I am not into slashers so this is another indication of how well I believe it was made). It was funny, to the point and summed up like all plays do in the end to a final ending.

I've been 2 inches from this movie but nothing made me reach out to pick it up. I guess I just see it as a musical goofy little Johnny Depp flick.

It's not as goofy as you would think...the storyline is done well and it is not as light as some musicals...the songs actually add a lot of background and down right catchy as well as humourous....I have caught myself singing along as I watched...Burton did a wonderful job with this one I think cinema wise.

I too enjoyed the movie. I thought it was good. Johnny Depp was good as Sweeney Todd. I was rather surprised to hear him sing. I didn't know he could sing so well. I must say though that I have enjoyed all, or at least most, of the characters that he portrays.

This is a really great movie. The only other musical I really liked was "Evita" with Madonna in it. It was great also. "Sweeny Todd" is apparently based on a true story. Well I remember this from my School days. This is the second or even third version of this but this one with Jonny Depp in it is the best one. I loved "Edward Scissor Hands". I bought this when my daughter was really young and she was fancinated with it. There is a rude scene in it and we always had to fast forward this.

I have to admit I was fairly pleased with this movie. I played Mrs. Lovett in a stage production of this movie in 1992, and love the original with Angela Landsbury. I loved what Burton did with the costuming and set. Johnny Depp and what's her face who plays Lovett did an excellent job. I was a bit disappointed with the gutting of the Judge character's role - they could have done so much more with Rickman. I also liked the way they turned the chorus pieces into instrumental background music.
