I read THE LOVELY BONES by the same author and was thrilled with the book. The style and story line were wonderful. LUCKY is a memoir, so I was not expecting the same enthralling story line, but I must say that I was a bit dissappointed by the book. Has anyone else read the book? If so, what do you think about it?

I read both the Lovely Bones and Lucky. I loved the Lovely Bones. Lucky was so sad... what a horrible thing Alice went through, i'm glad she got through it. It was interesting to see how it affected her family (i remember her sister seeming more attacked by it then alice). It was a good book, but i did like Lovely Bones better.

I was extremely disappointed with LUCKY. Maybe it was because it was a memoir. I'm not sure. I didn't hold my interest and just seemed like she kept repeating the same things. It could also be that real life just isn't as interesting as fiction. Not that it wasn't a terrible thing that she went through and good for her for being able to make it through that and write about it. Alice Sebold also wrote ALMOST MOON. Which I almost didn't make it through. It was an absolutely horrible story about a daughter who kills her mentally ill mother because she no longer wants the burden of taking care of her. It was poorly written and impossible to get through. It's a wonder how something as creative and wonderful as THE LOVELY BONES came from the same person.
