I read the stories in English, Spanish and French and I think the original French is the best version followed by Spanish. In English it's all right but I think that something is lost with the translation. Cetes romans sont fous! Toc-toc-toc!

Asterix is relatively obscure - something that you definitely have to go looking for rather than stumbling upon it - at least, in my experience. I was introduced to the series by a friend 20+ years ago. I tried to find more of the books with my then limited resources (no internet, small hometown library, closest book store too far away to walk, etc.) and had little success. A couple of years ago, my daughter got one of the books as a birthday gift from a friend. I started looking for them again, but few bookstores carry them. Our local library does have them, though. With the internet, you will have no problem finding the series...

4. thorgrym (307) | 1 year ago | Asterix is hilarious! I read the first book, Asterix the Gaul, about 20 years ago and loved it. A couple of years ago, I tried to introduce it to my kids, but I think that they were too young at the time to pick up on most of the humor. They liked the story, but didn't find it as funny as I do. I have not read all of the books, but I have yet to find one that is as funny as the first.
