When Does an Ordinary Discussion Turn Into The Top Discussion Of The Day?

I really wonder how these system works and really amazed by the system..on wednesday i had written a discussion which got twenty hits and it was posted in the todays top discussion for a few hours but later it was taken away even though i refreshed the page a couple of times..why did that happen..? how is the top discussions generated?

They get updated very often actually. This gives all discussions a chance to be seen by all members this way. I have no idea as to what the criteria is though, as I've seen some with minimal responses make it as well. But the daily digest is made of the top ten discussions according to the amount of responses recieved until midnight central time USA.

Well we can never tell really because they try to make that a secret from us. However, from a Database programmer (*ahem* *ahem*) I believe that they scheduled looking through the top recent discussions every now and then (a scheduled task) and then determine which garnered most responses when it was posted.
