Do you think it is alright to put up statues of politicians all over the city?

I feel that politicians are glorifying themselves by putting up statues all over the city. some have gone to the extent of putting up their own statue. Imagine the cheek! People generally put up statues of leaders who are no more, but Ms Mayawati the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh went ahead and put up her own statue in a park. Is it right to put up statues in this manner? The people of Iraq pulled down the statue of Saddam after he was overthrown. I think a similar fate awaits such other statues of people who put up their own statue.
