I am looking at an interview on the television of the parents of Jonathan King a 13 year old that hanged himself in school. He did it in a school seclusion room or a time out room. The teacher was said to have given him the rope.

Jonathan was diagnosis with ADHD, Depression and Behavior Disorder.

n 2004, 13-year-old Jonathan King committed suicide in a seclusion room at his school in Gainesville, Ga. His parents, Don and Tina King, are suing the Alpine Program, an alternative school for children with behavioral problems, for wrongful death.

Hello this is the first time I have heard about a suicide at this school. I think that the school should be responsible especially if he was telling teachers about having suicidal thoughts. Noone should take this as a joke when someone says this. They should have told his parents and they could have got help for him. This is a sad story.

Yes it is very sad and why would the teacher give him a rope? That is what I don't understand.

I agree with you. It´s never smart to take as a joke when someone talks about suicide. Even more when it is a child with LD. And about the rope, this also sound very strange.

myLot reputation of 96/100. patriciaqualls (4590)  4 years ago

I guess noone took him serious he was crying for help it sounded like if he tried to tell everyone. This is so sad.

That is horrible and I feel for the parents of that little boy. The teacher should have known better than to give the boy a rope. She was teaching at an alternative school and should have known not to give him a rope. The parents should go after the school for all they can. I know it won't ease their pain but at least it may prevent something like this from happening again and make sure that the school takes a look at its punishment policies and how to deal with troubles children.

And a secluded room for punishment. I saw it on the television and it look more like a jail cell than a room.

Hi Chevee,

That is so awful, I agree with the parents to sue the dschool, they are the ones that should be looking out for them and not to leave them alone knowing what his condition was like and to give hime a cord as well, I think its disgusting, I really feel for the parents.

This is horrible! How is it possible that nobody was there to see him when he hung himself? I think someone should still be monitoring the kids while they are in the seclusion room. I really hope that the parents of Jonathan will get justice :(

That is the question the interview asked.
Who was watching him in this seclusion room?

I haven't heard of this, Chevee, and I have family and friends who live in that area. This is awful, tragic, news. This horrible!

I disagree with the concept of the alternative schools as a whole.

It's always sad to hear of such stories. The poor parents of the boy. They must be devastated. It's always awful to hear of such stories.

I agree, it is devastating for something like that to happen, you send you child to school, and you think they are safe. He had to of been mistreated somewhere for him to want to commit suicide.

After reading the article, I'm kinda guessing if the boy really had ADHD. If you have noticed, it's mentioned in the article that he liked fishing. Something that need utter patience and silence. If I'm not wrong, ADHD usually deprives a person, children especially to be quiet for long times. I might be wrong too since I'm no doctor, but sure kinda makes me wonder what has the world come to. Instead of making them cure, they lock people in room saying that this is supposed to cure them. How in the world can something be cured by keeping them secluded in rooms, and d@mn, he was just a boy of 13. No wonder he used to get suicide tendencies.

We can't blame the school completely too, since the parents have to take care of the child also. Most probably he might have got the idea of committing suicide while watching TV at home or someone must have mentioned it in their conversation and he must have looked up to it. Still sad that such young ones, who have not even come of age go to such extremes.

It seems as if he was misbehaving that bad they would have called his parents instead of locking him in a room. I wonder how many other children in that school have been locked in that room.

A very sad and unfortunate incident which should not have happened, and the teacher is to be blamed for providing the rope and it greatly shows that he encouraged him and should be the key witness to what happen to this boy. A similar incident happened in my place early this year where a boy also around that age committed suicide because of poverty. His parents were divorced and the father is irresponsible towards his children welfare and is left with 6 of his siblings under the care of his jobless mother. They survive on handouts from neighbors and donors. Being the eldest in the family he was very sad and worried seeing the condition of his other siblings who are in bad situation, sometimes going without food for a day. As not to deprive his other siblings of the shortage of food he thought without one additional mouth his mother will not be burdened, he choose to commit suicide by hanging himself in his room.
