Well I got a ride down to the Mall today and went into get my eyes diluted - the drops put in - then I went to Sears to order my reading glasses. So I just finished ordering them and then I noticed that I had somehow lost my wool hat. So I walks out of Sears, and then went back in, asked the lady at the eye glass section and she said they were not there, so I figured I must have left them at the Optometrist because they had to check to see if my eyes were fine and the hat was there. So I decided to have something to eat, and then went back to Sears to look at the piano keyboards. I walked home, after all when I was young and wore glasses for cross-eyed, my eyes were blurry but I still made it. Anyway I guess being on sale was not cheap enough for my husband. They do not give glasses for free, unless one is on welfare, do they?

You only get free glasses if you are getting a medical card. And if you don't then you have to be like me and go without because my husband hasn't but me any glasses in the 19 years we been together. My mom has gotten me 2 pairs but last pair got broke 10 years ago, and I haven't had a pair since. I am far sighted. There is a place online that you can get glasses for alot cheaper then most places. Some as low as only a few dollars but buy cheap, get cheap...I am saving for a visit to the eye doctor and for a low price but getting the $24.99 since they are sturdier.

mtdewgurl, if you need those eyeglasses that badly, you should get them immediately. i wonder how have you managed to keep on without those most needed eyeglasses, more so because, you tinker with the computer. actually, even if i can ably read without my reading eyeglasses, i have to wear them whenever i am at the computer. the monitor so hurts my eyes if i don't have them on. you know the pain i feel and then within just a few minutes, i feel drowsy. i hope all the best for you, friend, do get those most needed glasses and feel much better whenever you are doing some chores about seeing much easier what goes on. good luck on the saving, may you be able to produce the needed amount so very soon.

Well I went checked up about the price of exam and it is $77. Lucky that I can enlarge the writing on my computer it is set at a font size of 16. My husband moved the furniture around a few days ago and put my chair farthest from the television and now the writing is blurry and I can't read it what is on the television. I will be getting a pair this year. I am trying to get assistance from the Salvation army I will have to pay $25 I think of the $77 But alot of paper work to fill out and have to get approved first.

if you need glasses, you need them, they aren't a luxury, they are something you need No, even on sale they aren't cheap, but even if you have insurance to cover them, you still need them and they must be obtained.

yup seems a bit much just for reading glasses. Must also be an adjustment for the astigmatisum. and double vision. Now I have to wait a week to get my glasses for they need something special done for the cataracts but I see nothing different in my colors or anything my momma told me hers cleared up when they changed her lences in her eyes She was 80 when she had them removed and was amazed at all the color she could see.

If I get tired, my eyes bother me and I have to wear sunglasses for a while when I go out. It is my double vision and astignatism, and I am trying to get rid of my cataracts. The trouble is my husband thinks that I do not need sunglasses unless the sky is extremely blue and the snow radiantly white.

That is about how much my husband's cost. He has trifocals and is near sighted. I just need reading glasses and I have double vision, and a slight astigmatism, so for me they are not that expensive, but close to $200 is a bit too much. And because of my cataracts, it is hard to get an accurate reading, so I have my pick up at the store other reading glasses around just in case.

Oh no, did you not find your hat? And you walked home with no hat? We are fortunate with our insurance, glasses cost us only about 20.00 for the frames, I can't remember the lenses, but they were at a good price too..In fact I am looking forward to getting another pair, but I also am needing more contacts, (I can only get one or the other per calendar year), but I have not decided yet..

I found my hat. It was at the optometrists. So I was all right walking home. I will get a rebate because I am over 65, but I was worried for a while, and since I do have cataracts, if I am at the computer too long, I get a bit too tired and my eyes will get blurry. I can see well enough, but if the shade of the print is almost the same as the background, or if it is too small, i.e. prescription pill bottle warnings such as "if your arm falls off, stop taking this," I need to wear them. We have Blue Cross, but do not know if that covers the glasses.

I think they are covered. My husband is extremely near sighted and he gets them. The trouble is that it depends on what he has left after the insurance, with all the prescriptions he has, I get sort of short shift so he did not bug me to get an eye exam until around Christmas because the insurance would cover it.

We had Blue Cross many years ago and if I remember correctly, they not only covered glasses, but it was a good plan..I hope yours does, I know the cost can be big without good insurance..

LOL! Suspense, from all you've said about him, your husband reminds me of that old codger, "Eustace," in "Courage the Dog" cartoons! Have you ever seen those? I find them hilarious! I must tell you, not even we welfare people get free glasses. Cut-rate, yes, but not free. And the designs lack style, too. Not to complain; just putting the record straight. Maggiepie

It was years ago, back in the 1960s, so it might be different now. And they were horrible.

hmmm...that hat must be something of value to you. the way you searched for it until it was found says it all. it is good that your efforts paid off. yes, it is also true here in my country that there are no eyeglasses that we can get for free. it is good though that they have dropped the prices considerably. it used to be quite expensive to have some glasses fit. i have noticed that there will always be some who are running sale one day after another. i am thankful for this because unlike you, if i lost my glasses, i will just have to secure a new set. i am so forgetful, there is no way that i can figure how to locate my missed items. so you can just imagine how costly it must have been for me if the optical shops have not been running this sale thing. so, you were cross-eyed before. i am happy for you that you are much better off now with a much improved eyesight. the way you relate your story, i can feel that you are a strong and sturdy woman. keep it up. let's win our life's battles.

I just need them for reading, and I have a good distance vision, but since I have diabetes, although mild, I have to get my eyes checked all the time, and wear sunglasses when I am out because of the glare of the snow. I ordered a nice looking pair with blue frames. Blue looks good on me.
