How Do I Replace a Strip of Grout on the tiles in my shower ?

I have noticed that there is a small section of the grouting in my shower, on the tiles that has a small crack in it and I can see darkness through it. Does anyone know how I can go about Replacing that grouting, on my own? Do I have to do the whole shower or can I replace a strip? How do I remove the old grouting? How long will it take to dry when I replace it and Is there anything I should know about preparing the surface before adding the new grouting? All responses appreciated.

mix it up to the consistancy of thick oatmeal, get an old playing card and slap it in there, when it gets alittle dry on the edges take a sponge and wipe the tiles clean pressing a little harder to put that dip in the middle between the 2 tiles.home depot has a glue that you can use but for such a small amt i doubt you'll need it under the grout, good luck

if you can carefully chisel out the old with a small straight end screwdriver do so ,lay the grout a little heavy in the seam and when you clean the grout off just rub a little harder in the middle to bring it to the level you want.

Yeah... you can buy a small bag of grouting in your hardware store. It comes in powder and it's very cheap. You just mix it with water like you would mix plaster. Scratch the lose old grouting out. You don't have to remove it all. Just make sure that you wash the soap and mildew from it... if any. Otherwise the new grouting won't stick properly. You don't have to do the whole wall. But while you are at it... you might as well check that no other places need some grouting. Once you have applied the grouting... let it set for a while... and wipe it gently with a wet sponge to remove any excess. Let it dry for 24 hours before using the shower. You will still have a thin film of white powder on the tiles. Just wipe it off with a dry rag. Once dry... the grouting might appear powdery... which it is. It does take a very long time before it actually harden like the old one.
