Did You Have Your Fill of Christmas Movies?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 67/100. anniepa (11663)   ranked 5 out of 10,795 in watching movies 4 years ago

This year I seemed to watch more holiday themed movies than ever before because I've had more time on my hands. I watched some old favorites that I usually watch like "The Christmas Shoes" and I also saw some new ones and some that were just new to me. I saw "Most Wonderful time of the Year" last night and really enjoyed it. Today I saw "Lost Holiday/The Suzanne and Jim Shemrock Story which was based on a true story. I also saw "Christmas Town", "Christmas Child", "Borrowed Hearts" and "Three Days". Oh, and I FINALLY watched "A Christmas Story" all the way through for the first time. I still have a few more recorded or set to record on my DVR including "Silent Night" and "Noel", which I saw part of a few years ago but not the whole thing.

What Christmas movies did you watch this year? Do you have any favorites that you MUST see every year?

I kind of envy you...LOL. I have TONS of Christmas movies and specials on VHS tape that I taped over the years but can't watch since my VCR player died on meangry
I was hoping and gave my VCR another try as there was one movie in particular that I wanted to watch on Christmas Eve...so popped it in the VCR...it spit it out right back at me...just as well maybe as maybe if it had gone in it would have jammed...waaahhhhh..so nope haven't been able to watch anything...my DVD is on the fritz toocry
In years past though, I couldn't get enough of watching Christmas shows...from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Christmas Toy, Nestor the long earred Donkey, The Santa Clause, all versions of A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life. Like I said I have tons of Christmas Specials/shows..name a Christmas movie/show...I probably have it...LOL And yes would watch them every year except for this year.
After the holidays I'm going to see how cheap I can get a VCR...I actually have more tapes than DVDS

I have more VCR tapes than DVDs too and I'm not even sure if my VCR still works or not, I haven't tried it for ages! I was kind of surprised when I went shopping with my daughter last week that you still can get VCRs and they're VERY cheap, probably even cheaper now after Christmas! They also had combination VCR/DVD players that were pretty cheap. Since I have a DVR and a DVD player I haven't used the VCR for a long time. I LOVE my DVR, now I'd like to get a DVD recorder so I can record some of the movies to keep.

I didn't see any of the old classics this year like "Rudolph" because I kind of got stuck on Lifetime, LMN and Hallmark.

I really don't like Christmas movies but, I did watch all the "classic" Christmas cartoons this year with my 4 year old he's the only one that still enjoys them out of my three boys. When I was growing up my step dad was a Christmas movie nuts and all the movies would play year round. "It's a Wonderful Life" would play all day on Christmas and I would have to hide in my room to get away from it.

I really don't remember watching many Christmas shows or movies as a child other than Bob Hope and Dean Martin specials...lol...WOW, I'm really showing my age!

Well...we didn't get a VCR until I was a teen. I think we were the only family that had computers but not a VCR lol My step dad was a programmer until the industry moved that overseas. Then we were stuck watching, It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story

I've only seen one, and that was "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Cloony. Love that movie. They've been running "ELF" a lot here and I just don't like that at all. I wouldn't mind seeing "The Santa Clause" again. I would love to see the original "Miracle on 34th Street" again, also. Another one that's popular that I just don't like to watch is "A Christmas Story". I know a lot of people like it, but it just annoys me to no end. It's funny, because I do enjoy the first "Home Alone".

Like I said, I just watched "A Christmas Story" for the very first time this year after hearing about how great it is for over 20 years. I enjoyed it but I don't expect to watch it over and over again, year after year like some do. I'll have to catch "Home Alone" again. I haven't seen that since it first came out. I don't think I ever saw the sequel at all.

I saw that you said that you'd seen that movie, but I didn't realize it was the same one I was thinking of until I went looking online for it. That's when I saw the title was the same one. The sequel to "Home Alone" wasn't quite as good as the first (which is true of most sequels), but it was cute-ish. The first one was best. The mother's efforts to get home reminded me of "Trains, Planes and Automobiles" with Steve Martin and John Candy. That was also a Christmas release, I think.

For the most part, anniepa, I avoided the Christmas movies this year. I did, however, order my favorite, Home Alone, and watched it a few times. I spent most of my time listening to Christmas music and enjoying my little tree.

I don't have a tree at my house - figured the cats would make short work of it...lol! However, my daughter has more cats that I do and she has one. She also has to redecorate it a dozen times a day!

I did not get my fill of Christmas movies this year. I did see a number of them but not the one I usually watch every year. Some how this year, even though it was on for a full day, I missed out on getting the time to watch "A Christmas Story."

One of these days I will just buy it so i don't have to wait for Christmas.

I guess I can put you down as one of the millions of die-hard fans of "A Christmas Story"? Has the little boy who played Ralphie done anything else since then?

Ya know Annie, I haven't seen all that many "Christmas" movies, even at Blockbusters, this year.

I do enjoy a light Christmas movie from time to time but the selection has been pretty limited this year.

Nah Annie, I don't do that. Matter of fact, I think it was the day before Christmas I spotted a title with the word "Cabin" in it. Not seeing it on the shelf, I asked if they had a returned copy that hadn't been put away and I was told that it's an "Only for sale film."

I really was in the mood to see a good holiday film, but I can't see buying something I'll watch once at best (if I don't fall asleep), especially since I have a monthly membership that costs me $37.44.

I watched one of the Charlie Brown Christmas movies, I also watched a lot of the cartoon Christmas movies. I didn't actually get to watch all the ones that I was rather interested in because I didn't find them on TV at all this year. I was actually a bit disappointed with that but there is always next year.

That's one thing I didn't see this year - cartoon movies. I saw so many of them when my grandkids were younger I think I've still got them all memorized.

Funny I saw less this year.I usually see The Nutcracker but I didn't this year. But I did see a Christmas Carol. It wouldn't be Christmas without it.
