Is it a good thing that this franchise is getting a "reboot"?

I'm not sure if you have heard, but A Nightmare On Elm Street is being remade, and I think it is released in 2010. I have been a fan of this franchise from the beginning, I thought Freddy was one of the coolest horror icons in a long time, even though as the movies went on he seemed to become more of a jokey figure...but despite this I'm no so sure remaking the first movie is a good thing. So what does everyone else think? Is it a good thing this series is being remade?
