Curious as to why this is a serous issue. Maybe your doing a paper for school or something. It is interessting who many words we abbreviate. Lately, when someone says thank you I say "no prob." maybe because combi sounds so much like we're cutting the word in half. So by saying combo it's almost a different word. And shorter. Plus with combi, somepeople wouldn't know if it should be pronounced with the short i like it or pronounce it combie. That's all I can think of.

I think it is cultural thing to add O to make words more "friendly". Like Jacko, wacko, sicko...and....combo...

now that you mentioned this you make me wonder is this a way of alien brainwashing us? through a certain word that is used as abbreviation of another word and yet it doesn't sound like it is an abbreviation of that word? then one day they will say this word and some kind of wave will hit us maybe then we will remember to wash our hair before combing...

First of all thank you for bringing such a serious issue to the front where it can be exposed. Not many people would have the courage to do so. There are several reasons for this anomaly. First of all the term Combi is used to refer to versions of various aircraft that can be used for either passenger, as an airliner would, or cargo duties, as a freighter would, and often have a partition in the aircraft cabin to allow both uses at once. Combi aircraft typically feature an oversized cargo door, as well as tracks on the cabin floor to allow the seats to be added or removed quickly. The I believe the SERIOUS answer to the question is found in the phonetics of the word combination. The "i" in combination make an "uh" sound. However, by placing the "i" at the end of a word like "Combi" give the "i" an "ee" sound. So the spelling of Combo gives a closer phonetic comparison than Combi would. Good talking to ya. Hope you have a Happy New Year.

I just created the thought or discussion of or on Mental Meltdown, Hmmm? Maybe I do smell something burning? So if I'm not washing my hair I'm brushing what is left, but I'm afraid to brush my hair because so little is there... But I won't comb o ver although I would like to find a special rabbit to com o ver but that would be a different discussion of two together.
