Would you live on batteries while living off the grid to save money? email this discussion to a friend?

I plan on moving out on or before 2010 when I reach $5,000 dollars that I saved with my Supplemental Security Income, but the thing is that, along with my rent, I might have to pay utility bills as well; electricity, water, heating, gas, sewer (YUCK!!!), and any other bills that the authorities and the government might think up. I've been reading up on people living off the grid as well as people who are going green, so I figured that I might do the same to save some money.

I can buy water from Wal-Mart and other supermarkets, i'm not so sure about the gas and heating bills unless there's a battery-powered blanket warmer invented already and sold somewhere, and I definitely need to bathe and use the toilet like any reasonable human living on this planet would, but I do have an idea to save my money on electricity bills: living off of batteries and other stored forms of electricity as an alternative to wasting money on such bills. It'll be like storing food in the fridge, keeping your food preserved until you're ready to eat.

All this year in 2008 i've been purchasing rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries (mostly AA and AAA size) and battery chargers (not to brag, but I have 3 for home usage, and 6 for portable usage) just in case of an emergency like the 2005 Atlantic Power Outage around Christmas back then, and now i've been thinking of using them to not only use as a viable alternative to electricity, but to save money on those bills and have myself a power source for two forms of my electronic tech gadgets such as:

-Entertainment items like my MP3 players, handheld game consoles, CD players, DVD players, etc.
-Essential items like my handheld radios, light (flashlights, one-push wall lights, lanterns, etc.), cooling fans (for hot environments), heating (for cold environments, if any battery-powered ones exist), laptops/notebooks/netbooks, etc.

My second plan with my batteries is that if my batteries are running out of power and are starving, I take them and the following items to any place where I can charge them up for free such as the local library:

-My rechargeable batteries
-My battery chargers
-An electrical outlet (3 prongs) or an extension cord (2 prongs)
-My consoles (DVD player, laptop/notebook/netbook) that have batteries inside that need to be charged

I'd have to ask permission first though, because i've heard that someone was charging up their laptop in an airport, and was arrested because of what they call "electricity theft" that can severely cripple those who use their laptops on batteries.

After all, even energy storage devices such as batteries need to eat something right? They gotta eat electricity to continue helping me out. They can't do useful things on an empty cylinder! They're just like kids or a pet: I gotta feed them or they'll starve!

So if you're saving money on electricity bills and living off the grid, would you AND could you live on batteries instead?

(Ironically, I typed this long topic as well on my new Acer Aspire One's batteries because I have purchased a new external battery called the "iRecharge" by CellBoost from RadioShack on 12-30-2008 as a backup battery in case my inner one ran out of power, as well as giving my new netbook an extra jolt of energy it needs for my uses.)
