1996 chevy suburban 2500 possible torque converter issues

This truck all of the sudden started making a grinding noise when slowing and downshifting as well as when upshifting. there was no warning signs, it just happened. I was told it was probably the clutch pack in the posi rearend, so I changed the gear oil and added the posi lube, but had no luck. any suggestions?
