| |  Lady Day had the more original voice; and her style was absolutely revolutionary: simply no one sang like her. Also, she lived it as she sang it. Ella's life was not wracked by constant tragedy as was Lady Day's, but she could still break your heart; there was so much romance, so much fathomless yearning in Ella's Fitzgerald's incomparably lovely voice. For me, she's the tops.
