Chicago still in the running for the 2016 olympics...is this a good thing?

Being from and living in Chicago, I have to say I have mixed feelings about the possibility of the olympics being here in 2016. On the one hand it puts Chicago on the front page(in a good way). There would be revenue for the city in a multiple of ways. Lots of businesses would make a nice dollar from all the added tourism. This is all great.
But what about chaos. How would this impact the day to day lives of us ordinary people who still have to go to work each day? There's a part of me that says take a couple weeks of vacation, put the house up for rent and go somewhere and watch the whole thing on TV.
Anyone have any opinions? Anyone from LA or Atlanta that can share their experiences. I'm not letting myself get to worked up over this since there still has yet to be a decision, but it would be great to hear from some people who've lived through it, or from some fellow Chicagoans who have given it some thought.
