| | No...they'd both lose money if you have the problem state correctly. I am not sure what you meant by "give her 55 of the amount left with her". My answer is based on her dad giving her only $55 of the total amount she started with...since that seems to be the way it is written. If Jack starts with $100 and dad give him 5% more...that = $105. Now dad wants to take back 5% of that total...which is $25 so Jack would end up with $80. Total loss, $25. For Jill, he wants to take 5% of her $100, that would leave her with $95 but he only wants to give her a total of $55 so she would end up with only that. Total loss, $45. So, both would be wise to take the initial $100 and run like the wind away from their father's wheeling and dealing! | | | | | | | mihai2203 (141)

| | I did do the math wrong on the first one...it would not be minus $25 for the 5% it would be $5.25 (it was late and I got some numbers mixed up) so Jack would end up with $99.75. Second answer still depends on whether or not I interpreted what you had written correctly. Does dad only want to give her $55? | | | | | | | Fractions for Grades 1-8 Like & unlike, add, compare & more. Practice fractions and have FUN! www.IXL.com/math | add comment | | | |

| | Jack has $100 His dad gives him $5, now he has $105 His dad takes away $5.25, now he has $99.75 Jill has $100 Dad takes away $5, now she has $95 Dad gives her $4.75, now she had $99.75 Neither of them should accept the deal as they would both loose 25 cents (mathematically speaking) They should accept the deal if their dad needs the cash, besides they're family (family speaking) | | | | | | | ilse72 (1094)
