How do East Indians feel about Native American Indians?

Ever since Columbus incorrectly identified the first Native Americans as Indians, the name has stuck. The political correct term is Native Americans, but Indian is often still used, even among Native Americans themselves. I'm from the USA so I know one side of this story, but I notice there are some East Indians on MyLot and wonder: What do East Indians, or any other MyLotters, think about Native Americans being incorrectly identified as Indians and carrying the nametag with them for the past 600+ years?

It is actually Native American, as if you asked any Native American they will be the first to tell you that is how we are classified. as I'm 1/2 Native American and when I have asked it has been told to me that is how it is, and classified. but some do just say Indian as meaning Native American, but should say Native American. as there is a place for that on papers when you fill out that has "Native American meaning Indian. I learn this back in school. Bizmom24

Some of the Native Americans I work refer to themselves among themselves as Indians, but perhaps that's more because they play the role of "Indian" in a show. Maybe back on the reservation they stick to the label "Native American". Thanks for your comment!

i am Indian and i was also wondering in the beginning why these people are also called as the Indians while they are far away from my land . then i later realized about it and i don't think much about this , as many people are called by different names and some times two people might have the same name . i think that it just like that. yes i too agree with you the called the native Americans as the Indians is an incorrect term and they must be called native Americans instead of Indians

It's funny how one person's unintentional mistake can last forever! On a different subject, The Big Bang was the label given by a physicist as he was ridiculing the expansion theory of the universe, and it stuck! Now we all imagine the universe starting as an explosion when that isn't at all what the proponents of the theory intended.

I suppose it matters but for me there are more important things than labels mistakenly given.

I agree with you but I suppose it depends on the label, especially where minorities are concerned. Thanks!
