Lost Art: Does anyone know how to tat?

I think tatting is becoming a lost art, or may already be so. Yes you can still buy tatting shuttles in craft stores, but who knows how to do it anymore? I have always wanted to try to make some of the pretty laces that can be made with tatting. Another plus is the small size so that it can be carried with you almost anywhere so you can work on it while stuck waiting in places where waiting would upset you without something to do. I used to have a bone tatting shuttle of my grandmother's. I still have a bone crochet hook, but the tatting shuttle is gone, I think. I have never been able to find anyone who knows how to tat who could teach me. I don't follow written instructions very well. I need the 3D hands on kind of instruction where I can watch and repeat.
Do you tat, or know anyone who does? What kinds of items can be made and used today by tatting?

For my birthday last September I went out and bought a tatting shuttle. I think it has become a lost art. I've been trying to find a book on tatting, but I've had no luck or the ones that I have found just don't seem to have a format that I find appealing. I am finding that tatting is a lot like filet crochet, but it's not as delicate as tatting. I can't see myself doing a lot of projects with it if I get good at it. What I do see myself doing is learning the art to pass it on to my daughter ir grand-daughter.

Yes I tat. I don't do it terribly well, but thats because I never get time to practice, but I can do all the basics and enjoy making simple lace to trim other projects with. My mother was really good at tatting, and I have a lot of her tools as well as some antique tatting shuttles that I really enjoy using.
