Smokeybear came back from the vet with a surprize that I did not see coming. He has a weak immune system which I have always know about but he has a case of fur mites, something like ear mites but these things attacked him because of his weakened state after my husband rescued the kitten earlier in the year. I could not see them and bath him regularly but they can hatch and complete a life cycle in only 21 days! He had to be completely shaved, dipped and put on antibiotics and I have to give him bee pollen daily to build his ammunity back up. Harley had to have the same treatment for the fur as if one has it they both have the mites. I also had to treat my furniture and carpets to provent a reinfestation of these microscopic nasty little critters. Smokeybear and Harley are not to happy about being shaved but if it makes him better he will just have to get over the humilation of being bald.

Bawb - he wasn't shaved, his hair fell out due to starvation, he was near death when rescued.
I'm sorry to hear that he had this problem. I'm glad you have been able to treat him successfully, now, when you can, you MUST post a picture of them shaved. He doesn't have to hear us laugh!

I posted a picture of him that you can look at. He is velvet soft and hates it. You can tell in the photo that is is still angry. Believe this he just laid there and let me shave him and it was like sheering a sheep. He didn't get grumpy until it was time to shave his belly than it was all out war. Let me know what you think of his new look!

Its hard to tell that he's been shaved, unlike Bawb, who you could count his toes and ribs... He doesn't look happy, but not that unhappy, I have a cat who's markings make her look angry even when she's happy and another who looks sad, even when HE's happy.

This is awful! The poor little things! I hope they are doing better now. And the hair will grow back. Ive never seen my cat without hair and I suppose it would be a freaky site. I have seen what hairless cats look like. I hope your two babies get well quick!

Hi Dvmurphy, Oh poor Smokeybear and Harley, I bet they both look a sight but at least they will be mite free. I have heard of ear mites although my cats have never had them but never these. I Smokeybear get well soon. Huggles. Ellie :D
