Hmmmmm.....may be your IDE cable not plug in correctly. If your computer is still guaranty then contact your computer service.

It sounds like you have done a few changes to your system. So, you installed windows and everything was working fine? What else did you do? It's important to ask these questions in order to get to the root of the problem. When you refer to your IDE you know you have the Primary IDE and the Secondary IDE. On your Primary IDE you have the hard drive installed don't you? And, on the secondary IDE you have your cd rom drive installed don't you? Do you have a cd rom drive and a dvd drive or is the drive a combo drive, ie both cd rom and dvd? I'm thinking along the lines of master and slave designations. If you have more than one drive on an IDE cable then you have to set the jumpers to either master or slave depending on how the drive is connected on the IDE cable. If you went into cmos setup then it sounds as though the drive was recognised. I don't think you really needed to change your ram. Anyway, the best thing to do is check out with your local tech support or, you can subscribe to www.geek.com for free.
