Are you GREEN?

I do recycle and reuse whenever it is feasible. I have acquired numerous reusable shopping bags to reduce our use of plastics.

We recycle cans and newspaper. We use to recycle glass and plastic, but in our area, there is not the facility for it, we had to drive a good distance to drop off glass, (that filled a whole van) and they almost refused it. I keep the thermostat lower in these cold times, and even more so when I am alone. I try to turn off electrical devices as much as I can. I do not print every little thing anymore. All the lightbulbs in our house have been replaced. Reuse, donate, conserve...

I try as hard as I can and it is the right thing to do.We buy everything that will recycle and things like toys,bikes,books, kids clothes get handed on and in this day and age everyone is really pleased with my donations to my friends,but we sort of barter one of my friends looked after me when i was ill,she passed the house every day and came in and made sure i was alright and made me a cuppa tea,another one works at a charity shop and she will bring me things that she knows i will like as presents,I have plenty of friends that watch my house when we are away,another one cooks me lunch so really and truthfully we live in a preservation area and we all look after one another and pass things on,we have a bulky freighter twice a month for bigger things like old washing machines and such like provided by the council,our normal rubbish is picked up everyother week with recycling of tins,foil, paper,garden waste.food waste, cardboard being the other week.We take our glass to a recycling bin at the supermarket,the only thing left is the plastics so when they sort that one out,our nomal bin would only need emptying once a month if that.We have the eco lightbulbs,the new cooker and freezer had the low badge on them and high efficiency label,our washing machine is eco as well only takes what water it needs.We recycle all our shoes and cloths,coats ect through friends or charity shops or collection bins.Our sky tv turns it self off,my phone is low energy,and my steam iron also turns it self off if I leave it to answer the door, so we are doing really well,we are doing our best.

I try to buy less items in plastic containers... like mayonnaise.. I buy in a glass container rather than plastic. I save my glass containers for canning. All I have to do is buy tops to go with them. I don't recycle because I try not to have any plastics containers. I usually buy milk in glass containers also. Sometimes we buy them by the plastic gallons, but not usually.

We've been living green for a long time, but not 100% green. I know, I just controdicted myself.:-) We reuse a LOT (shopping bags, cardboard food boxes make great art supplies, cans or jars for storage, etc.) and we recycle all of our plastics that we can't or don't the room for to reuse. I'd like to compost for my garden, but I can't stand the smell. That's one of the ways I'm not 100% green. LOL We also donate or sell 100% of what leaves this house that is in good condition, rather than throwing it away like so many of our friends and family members do . . . frustrates us. We try to find as many recycled or "green" products as we can afford, but they tend to hike the prices on such items out here. It's frustrating when you have to live on a tight budget, but we manage to find good deals when we can.

i am really good about reusing as much as i can. we have started saving paper and thin cardboard for recycling our own paper. i have made many many small green steps in my life. homemade cleaners using only natural green products. i have written several articles on the subject too. i have included the links hope you enjoy.
